Re: cervix or not?

DH and I haven't had penetration, yet, so I can't comment on that. But my orgasms are just as strong and easy as they used to be. Also, your g-spot isn't a part of your cervix, so that won't be affected even if your remove your cervix. I'm not worried about intercourse being any less awesome than it used to be.

Thanks! Most things I read say if it's good now, it will be good later! So I shouldn't have any worries! LOL!

Re: cervix or not?

HI,

I had my cervix removed. Sex is exactly the same as before. Neither of us can tell the difference. I have no regrets whatsoever and I'm quite pleased I don't have to deal with regular paps anymore. (I will be going back annually for a general check up)

It's a personal decision, unless you have a known health issue impacting that part of the uterus. Women do just as well with or without. You just have to decide what's important to you.

Re: cervix or not?

I had my cervix removed. I did have the option to keep mine, but I didn't want regrets after the surgery wishing I had it removed. My mother died from pappillary sirous uterine cancer in about a year from diagnosis. That type is known to be aggressive and reoccurant. It wasn't cervical cancer she died from, but I may have the gene that can cause either type, uterine or cervical. Since I was having a hysterectomy anyway, I figured might as well. I also had my appendix taken out. I was teasing the Dr that if he saw any other spare parts in there, take them out too.

I'm only 3 weeks post-op, but I know it was the right decision for me. I'm a little nervous about the sex part and healing, but I'd rather have that than feel like the grimm reaper is lurking around the corner.

Re: cervix or not?

I kept my cervix. my doctor said as long as it is healthy you should keep all the parts you can. I have both overies and cervix.

My doctore said the same thing. I also though the same thing about possibilities of less chance of cancer. She did said those who keep it could get mini periods but I have read that some dr. do an ablasion to take care of that.

Re: cervix or not?

I am not keeping mine. I'm having the hysterectomy for pain/bleeding issues that continue post ablation with as close to a pre-hysterectomy diagnosis as you can get to adenomyosis. Since the cervix is part of the uterus, the adeno can affect that area as well, and I could still have pain/bleeding post hysterectomy if I keep it.

From the research I've been doing, it seems like there is a 25% chance you'll still have some bleeding post hysterectomy if you keep your cervix. There is also a 25% redo rate if you keep your cervix. My OBGYN said if there is something wrong with your cervix later and it needs to come out, it's A LOT harder to go back and get it due to scarring and no "clear path in."

A friend of mine from college is an OBGYN and I talked to her more personally about all of the related issues, and she is with my OBGYN who's doing the surgery, that at least in my case, it's better to get rid of it. I guess it depends on why you're going in there in the first place...

Re: cervix or not?

I had everything removed but the cervix. I never had an abnormal pap and doctor did tell me that the cervix is part of the pelvic floor. I tossed around keeping or taking and decided to keep the pelvic floor naturally intact if I could. I will just have to live with yearly pelvic exams.

Re: cervix or not?

Thanks for you input. My Gyn. just called and he is neutral but I think he leans towards keeping the cervix due to infection and he said that I would bleed less post-surgically.
