Upcoming hysterectomy 5/7: Blood pressure questions
I have suffered from HBP for the last 7 years since the birth of my 2nd son. No issues during pregnancy, just started out of nowhere 6 days after delivery. It landed me in the ICU for 4 days. Anyways. I have been on meds ever since. I have had 2 kids since then. My pressure has regualted, with meds, after each kid, but it would always spike.
My question is, will this procedure throw my pressure out of whack? it seems to be hormone driven. I am keeping my ovaries though so, im hoping it wont effect it but, im really worried about this.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 5/7: Blood pressure questions
I can't really answer your question -- I can just share my experience. My BP jumped pretty high the second night that I was in the hospital, when they were tapering me off epidural pain meds, and they said it was common then.
Best of luck.

Is that just from the pain, you think? I just dont want it to get out of control like it was previously. Im talking 210/125. Those were scary times. I dont want to trade one for the other.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 5/7: Blood pressure questions
The anesthesiologist will be in charge of controlling it during surgery. Mine shot up to 180 when I went in for both my D&C and later the hysterectomy. In fact, today when I went in for my colonoscopy it went up to 200. The anesthesiologist told me no problem, he would take control it with meds during surgery. Before my hyster he even showed me my records from the D&C how it came down to 130.
The doctor will know your condition. Talk with him about it, talk with the hospital pre-op, and make sure you talk with the anesthesiologist. And make sure they know your concerns about after surgery referring back to what happened in the past. I don't know what type you are having but I would think the robotic, although the easiest to recover, would not be your first choice since you are tilted with your head down so your organs fall out of the way. That will increase BP and possible stroke.
Get your questions answered so you can relax and be assured they will do all they can to make sure your BP does not get out of control again. (nothing can be guaranteed)

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 5/7: Blood pressure questions
I'm having the TVH. Im worried about long term. Like after leaving the hospital. Does the uterus let off a lot of hormones? Ikn the ovaries do but, idk about the uterus. The hormone shift seems to be what sets mine off.

best of my knowledge the uterus does not release hormones, but the ovaries do even after menopause.
To find out if you are in perimenopause ask the doctor to check your hormone levels.
