Question about size and location of fibroid.

Just had an ultrasound today last year (1-2004) my fibroid was 5 cm. Today the fibroid measured at approx. 6.72 cm.

My fibroid is located at the front and right of my uterus and so it is pressing on my bladder. Last year the ultrasound technician asked me if I have to pee a lot and I said "not really". Well this year I have noticed a BIG difference. I would not think that the small amount my fibroid grew would make that much difference. I always feel like I need to pee and I get up 2-3 times during the night because I need to use the restroom.

My question is, what can I relate the size of my fibroid to this year? Last year the tech said it was the size of a kiwi, lime or egg. I forgot to ask today what I could relate the size of 6.72 cm. to?

Also, I am almost 48 years old. Do you think my doctor will recommend a hysterectomy since I have pressure on my bladder. I also have recurring Urinary Tract Infections and I think it is due to the fibroid pressing on my bladder.

I am open to any opinions and or information!

Perhaps you would be a candidate for uterine fibroid embolization (UFE). I hope you are able to find the right answers soon. I am sending huge cyberhugs

I agree with Tysmiling. Maybe you are a candidate for a UFE?? From what I understand of the procedure it helps to shrink fibroids while retaining the uterus.

In my case, I was not a good candidate for a UFE since my two fibroids combined were 15 cm. In pre-op, I also had bladder incontinence and my periods were starting to get heavier. My Dr. attributed both to my fibroids. Today, in post-op, my bladder works great since the pressure from my fibroids is gone.

Possibly, if your Dr. suggests a hyst, then maybe you are a candidate for a less invasive hyst, such as a laparoscopic hyst. Two types are the LAVH and the LSH, which I had. Here is a Hyster Sisters link that goes over the diffferent types of hysts:

I was a candidate for a LSH after I did (3) months of lupron shots to shrink my fibroids enough for a LSH. Lupron is not for everyone since it causes temporary chemical menopause.

Don't worry. I was 46 at the time of my hyst last year and we Hyster Sisters are here to help if we can.

6.72 cm = 2.645 inches. I think that would be a little bit larger than a kiwi or an egg.
