Hysterectomy or Cinch it up and Clean it?

I am scheduled for a LAVH on 5/12 (Soon!). Of course I am having the usual panic attack. I think my biggest concern is not knowing how sex and orgasm will be affected as well as having to go through a major surgery. I do not have heavy periods. They are fine. I did have some spotting for a while and that has gone away. I did have tests done and I do have polyps, ademyosis (SP?), a sagging (not prolapsed) uterus that is enlarged. I was wondering if I was a candidate for having my uterus surgical pulled up and having ablation done. It appears from some posts that ablation is done for heavy periods. My periods are not heavy nor a bother. Does it sound like I am a candidate for surgically suspending the uterus and having my uterus scraped or ablated? I really don't have much in symptoms other than a bit of discomfort. A hysterectomy seems scary, yet it does seem to be for sure way to elimate future doctor visits and testing. Your opinion is valued. Has anyone out there had this type of procedure done for the problems that I have? If so, how did it go for you? Thanks. MIMI

If you are not 100% sure that this surgery is the right and best option for you, I would strongly suggest that you postpone it at this time.

Did you have a second opinion before you scheduled your surgery? Did you ask what options were available besides a hysterectomy?

We do have some information in the Resource Database regarding the various Options for Prolapse that you might want to read through.

A hysterectomy is a major, irreversible surgery that is not without risks and should be considered a last resort option.

Sending lots of S and best wishes your way!
