Question about blood work when on hrt

I am 39 years old and lost both ovaries. My dr. wants me to stay on Premarin for at least till I am 50. I always forget to ask him about blood work. Does anyone know how often you have to have it checked when on hrt? What do they check for?

lazybug73!! I am also on Premarin and my said I would be on it for a LONG time. It has been over 18 months since my surgery and I haven't had my blood checked at all. I don't know if that is because I am not having any symptoms or what. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this for you. I will be anxious to see what others have to say.

Bloodwork may not be necessary. Test ranges are usually very broad and we all won't feel the same at a given level. Testing can be useful if you are having issues finding balance after quite some time, but it's not a necessity if you're not having problems.

If you are having problems, some of the things to test are Estrone, Estradiol, Estriol, Progesterone, Testosterone, Free Testosterone, SBHG and a full thyroid panel.

I take bio-identical HRT (even before hyst) and my dr checks mine at my annual checkup. If I start to have symptoms (lower libido, moody, dryness, etc) at other times, he runs them again.

Thanks you guys. I guess I worry for nothing. It is weird that four years ago I lost my left ovary due to cysts and I was extremely irritable and moody it was like pms everyday. Now that I lost my other ovary I feel more balanced and relaxed. I never experienced any symptoms in the hospital following my surgery and I started Premarin a few days after I came home. I am doing well on it. I just hope that I continue well for the next 10 years I have to stay on it and then when I am off it. Thanks sisters for your support!
