Upcoming hysterectomy: pre-op anxiety about the recovery period and menopause

Hi. I am new here and have never posted so I am nervous about what to write. I am scheduled for TLH on October 24,2016. I have been on lupron through the summer and got my last injection 9/29 so I am still having periods of time of tearful episodes and feelings of sadness and it doesn't have to be over anything specific. I am nervous about what the menopause might be like although I know possibly some of it from being on lupron. but every woman is different, I know, but I want to try to prepare myself for what might occur. but i don't know what might occur. Any suggestions on how to prepare emotionally for menopause would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy: pre-op anxiety about the recovery period and menopause

Hi there! Good luck on your surgery and I hope everything goes well for you. Like you said, everyone is different, but surgical menopause has been just fine for me! I had a few issues with anxiety/insomnia for a few weeks after the surgery, but that all went away. Looking back, I think it just took some time for my body to "regulate" itself and to get used to my new estrogen-in-a-pill!

Some women experience a sort of mourning-even those not planning on having more children. I did, briefly, but that too passed.

So, I guess my advice would be, it takes some getting used to, and you may have some ups-and-downs for little while, but be patient with yourself and know that you will recover!

The great part of menopause? NO periods...no monthly pain...no worrying about having pads/tampons with you at all times...no monthly breast pain/bloating/etc....!!!

Personally, I have no regrets!
