No interest in sex
I am post op 6 weeks....vaginal hyst, right ov removed. I have just no interest in sex whatsoever which feels a big weird but at the same time I am willing to please if asked.....do I need hormones? Is this something to be concerned about if I have no interest but still willing to please hubby? I'm confused.....

No interest in sex
Hormones can cause the lack of desire for sure. The ladies at the Hormone Jungle know what to try if that's the cause. My DR said there are other meds to try too. Are you any kind of HRT? Have you tried having your DH "warm" you up with a little extra foreplay? This helped to relax me the first few times. Really had the desire after I was worked up to it. We still don't do it like we did, but he's become used to it by now. We still "make deals" though, I please him and he gives me a good back massage. I look forward to the massage!

No interest in sex
Please don't feel too discouraged. At 8 weeks post-op, I did not have much interest. (And I have been on the Climara patch since the day after my surgery.) Just recently (4 months post-op), I have developed quite an interest!!!
Consult your doctor. Your remaining ovary may still be "dozing." Perhaps one of the other sisters may be able to shed more light on this matter.
Best wishes...

No interest in sex?
Hey bren, I am almost 4 weeks post-op and I have more interest in sex than I can handle. The problem is that I can't do anything about it for another 4 weeks. My doctor put me on Estratest (a synthetic estrogen and testosterone) right after surgery. The funny thing is, at 43, and I was peri-menopausal prior to surgery, I had no interest in sex. I was too exhausted and didn't have any desire whatsoever. I had a TVH, and he took my ovaries and everything, and in the hospital, my doctor placed me on Estratest, a synthetic estrogen and testosterone. I said to him "what do I need testosterone for?" He said it would stimulate my sex drive and improve my libido. I was like "yeah, right, that's what I'm thinking about now after a hysterectomy!" But, sure enough, within a week, I knew I had a libido. That testosterone must be doing something right. And, to be blunt, we are all sisters here, right? Well, I was concerned about orgasm. Can I really have an orgasm after a hysterectomy. Well, I can't have sex for 4 more weeks, but orgasm...it all works. Hard to believe. I'm so relieved. Are you laughing yet? So ask your doctor about taking a testosterone supplement. It works sister. Take it from someone who had a non-existent sex drive before surgery. I'm rarin' to go and my husband is scared of me now. I just HAD to respond to this thread....
Susan..your post absolutely cracked me up!........especially your signature down at the bottom about puberty in reverse. Thanks for the chuckle. I have to agree. I was 33 at the time of my hyst and also had virtually no sex drive prior to my hyst and remained that way for 5 months even with keeping one ovary intact. I kept complaining to my new gyn about feeling low in energy and just plain blah.....just before doing my second abdominal surgery for removal of left ovary my doc put me on estratest hs and my libido went through the roof. (puberty in reverse)
Since having my left ovary removed I have noticed a little more of that familiar fatigue and a little less of the libido so doc is going to try me on the estratest fs when my current script runs out......I am looking forward to it. Testosterone is a wonderful thing isn't it? Sure makes you regret missing out on it all of those years prior.
Bren......definitely discuss this with your doctor honey and see if he thinks that a trial run of a testosterone supplement might be right for you. Good Luck and let us know how you are doing.
lots of s

No interest in sex
The only thing I would add to all of this it to take your time. Don't expect things to just jump where you want them to. I am 8 months out and am just now getting back into the swing of things. My body was tired of fighting before the surgery and then had to repair itself. Takes a while for all that to happen. I was lucky in that I have a wonderful DH who is patient and looks at the larger picture. Now we don't have to schedule anything and things can be fun again. Just give your body and yourself time to get used to the new you.
Take Care,
Steffi

No interest in sex
I am nearly 4 weeks post op [surg 20th Jan] and also have absolutely no desire for sex. As far as I know I still have my ovaries. I had a vaginal hyster, uterus taken, and bladder and bowel repairs. It was discovered during the operation that I had endometriosis as well.
I still feel very tender in the vaginal area as well as the belly, plus I have looked 'down there' with a mirror and did not really like what I saw [stitches, bruising etc] so I am not sure of hubby's reaction. In fact I am quite nervous about the whole issue. I have been able to 'help him out', but do not want anything for myself!
Also I had a very eratic libido before the op. So I am interested in this Estratest stuff!! Could this be an answer for me?? But what about all this stuff they are talking about now with HRT and strokes and heart disease and stuff??
I was beginning to think I was not normal when I read some of the posts in here from women who were 'raring to go' once they got the all clear from the doc. So I am glad you posted Bren and the others - but I would like it to be different.

I'd like to add.........
That Steffi is absolutely right and that everyone should give themselves time to heal and settle into their "new" selves. It can take time. I for one though, wasn't willing to wait 8 months because of the severity of my symptoms, but it can take a while to readjust.
There were many things that brought my Dr to prescribe estratest. Lack of libido being only one of them, but I think that is a very important factor in a womans life, and I'm not talking about for her DH's satisfacton either, but for her own. There are drop down menus on the main page of the Hormone Jungle that list symptoms of too little, too much testostreone, as well as lots of other good information. So for anyone who is concerned about it, that's a great place to start! In fact, that is where I gathered my info that I took to my Dr.
Good Luck to all who are suffering with loss of libido problems and I hope that you are able to find some help. I for one wouldnt give up my estratest for the world.

me too
i am so grateful for this thread. i had read enough to know that i wasn't the only one who was not feeling excited about being sexual after the 6-week wait period. i wasn't getting pressure, exactly, but... well, you know.
so i decided that i needed a safe transition back to my sexual self. my dr assured me that my vagina was the same (i got to keep both ovaries and my cervix), but i felt different. i felt like sex would feel different for me and my partner... i wasn't sure, but i knew that i needed it to be slow and patient and sweet.
so i asked for that. i was pampered and everything went verrrry slowly. i learned that i am still sexual and excitable.
i don't feel the drive and am still tender (physically and emotionally) but i took the first step and it was okay.
my advice [to myself]: trust yourself and be sweet to yourself. touch yourself alone first, ask for a re-deflowering ceremony.
we deserve this!
