Adenomyosis suspected- hysterectomy recommended

ARG.. Reading this site has really encouraged me, but it also is making me ask so many more questions. My consult is end of Nov. On one hand after reading this I am SO ready..

SO ready for the constant bloating, pain, cramping, nauseousness,fatigue, low iron, terrible Flo, and no thought of sex to go away and to feel better again. Just want to make sure I am making the right decision.

Is leaving the cervix better? Doc said they would more then likely leave the ovaries.

I see I SHOULD expect to feel better as I feel nasty right now. But what really SHOULD I expect to feel a few years down the road from a hyst.

What about things moving after a Hyst is that really as much of a problem as my moms friends are telling me?

Should I make sure they do a bladder sling when they do surgery?

Then on the other hand I wonder If I am forgetting something and is there a way I can deal with this without a hyst? Please tell me I am making the right decision?

They are doing a ultrasound in Nov. (office is really booked sigh). to double check to make sure initial diagnosis (internal exam) looks right. I know if they change the diagnosis to fibroids I have more options Doc does not think they be changing it though. SIGH. My uterus is painful, soft, and enlarged.

I had my hysterectomy for adenomyosis,fibroids and endo. I am 4 months post op and am so happy I had it done. All that horrible pain and bleeding is a thing of the past. Keep researching and asking questions on here and you'll find all the answers! Your cervix is actually part of your uterus, not a separate organ. It is the neck portion. If you have adeno it can also be in your cervix and if you leave your cervix some of your symptoms may not go away. I kept my ovaries but let my cervix go along with my uterus.I tried to get my doc to do the bladder sling and she assured me I didn;t need one. She said my enlarged uterus was pushing on my bladder and once the uterus was removed I'd be fine.I'm still hoping she's right. I have minimal leakage now and doc says it will go away with time.What are you referring to with the " things moving" question? There is no cure or alternative treatment for adenomyosis. Sometimes BC pills can lessen symptoms and stall things on until menopause though. Hysterectomy is the only way to get rid of it according to my doc. It also can not be diagnosed until pathology after a hysterectomy. Ultrasounds and MRI's can give your doc a pretty good idea if they think it is adeno, but not for sure.

Thanks so much for the answers. It does help. I guess I will just have to trust the doc on the cervix question. Maybe it is not as big a deal as I am making out. Been reading more on here and it HAS been helping.

By things moving. I was referring to other organs sifting after a Hyst because of the extra room. Some friends of my moms.. (remember here early years of hyst.. my mom is 75.) have had issues with everything sifting internally. causing all sorts of issues. Maybe they do things differently now and not as many people have issues. (HOPING)

The organ shifting can be a problem for women I have heard too. It's very important to follow your doctors restrictions after surgery. Especially the lifting. Doctors usually restrict for anywhere from 4-8 weeks, but I restricted myself much longer on my own because I wanted to avoid the shifting and possible prolapse issues. I'm 4 months out and still don't do heavy lifting. I'm a better safe than sorry kind of person. I probably went overboard with restricting myself, but the thought of bladder and bowel issues in my future was enough to set in paranoia. I figured even if it wasn't a possibility it surely wouldn't hurt me to be careful, considering the alternative.Some doctors are pretty lax with restrictions and some are strict. Listen to your Mom, it can't hurt!! I still have bladder and bowel issues a bit and was very careful. I can't help wondering how much worse they may be if I hadn't been careful.
