You can eat anything. Be careful of foods that bind. You don't want to get constipated because it hurts having bowel movements. Lots of water will help. Eat healthy and get enough fiber.

Re: A Special Diet after Surgery??

Tanjie -

As soon as I felt up to it, I was eating whatever I wanted. I would stick to soft foods and/or high fiber for a bit because that first BM can be problematic and maintaining regularity for a while can be difficult.

As far as exercise - You are definitely going to want to wait - especially for yoga. You don't want to stress/stretch your sutures - internal or external. Make sure to discuss this in detail with your doctor, but I suspect a minimum of 4 weeks and maybe as much as 8. Depends, too, on how well your surgery and recovery go.

The key to recovery is to take it easy and not do too much, too soon. Many have delayed their recovery and even created complications by pushing the envelope.

I was told to take short walks around my house about once every hour the first 2 weeks - avoid stairs if at all possible and go slow if not, and not lift anything over 10 pounds.

After 2 weeks, I was cleared to go for longer walks and started taking the dogs out for their mid-morning stroll. At that time, I was also cleared to drive and start lifting up to 15 or 20 pounds. I worked my way up to more activity over time and at 6-weeks was cleared to resume all normal activity, but to listen to my body and quit if something hurt.
