Sleep Aids...any suggestions

I havent been able to get any real sleep and it takes me a long time to fall asleep. My physician gave me Ambien but it causes headaches and it takes too long to kick in. Then the downside of taking it, if I awake I cant go back to sleep.

I was wondering if Tylenol PM or Motrin PM would be good...any suggestions?

Re: Sleep Aids...any suggestions

I take Advil PM which works like a charm for me. I take one and I wake up feeling refreshed with a terrific nights sleep. If I take two, I wake up sleepy and usually go back to bed after breakfast as it takes a bit more to wear off.

I met with my Dr. today for her pre-op and have not been sleeping well out of stress so tonight is a 2 advil night! Bring on the zzzzzzz's

Good luck to you!

Ambien works great for me. Do you take 10 mgs.? You could also try chlonopin (sp?) or valium. Yoiu will need 10 mgs. Good luck, Amila.

Re: Sleep Aids...any suggestions

Hi minna2880!!

My Dr gave me lorazepam (ativan). It's an anti anxiety med not strictly a sleeping pill. I just take 1/2 tablet about half an hour to an hour before bed. My trouble was not falling asleep as much as staying asleep. I have found it works for me. No matter what you take, you'll have to check with Dr if it has to be stopped for a period before surgery (likely Advil would have to be stopped).

Good luck!!

Hugs,
Suzanne

Try over the counter Simply Sleep by Tylenol. It is a sleep aid that really does work.
Good luck

I won't take Ambien. It makes me hallucinate. I've found that 2 benedryl knock me right out.

Good Luck!

Just remember you can't take Motrin 1 week before surgery-- can cause excessive bleeding!

Tylenol PM might be ok- they told me I can do Tylenol (which is pretty much a joke for my level of pain, haha!)

My dr recommended a product called Calms Forte. It's from the natural foods store. It's all natural and, for me, worked better than any other product I tried. I didn't have to stop taking it before surgery either, and added help. Good luck to you and hopefully- Sweet Dreams.

Re: Sleep Aids...any suggestions

About 30 years ago, my mom was going through chemo for lymphoma, and she had an awful time sleeping. She tried Sleepytime tea, made by Celestial Seasonings. She was doubtful about it, but it worked great. She told me, and I was also doubtful. It's what I use when I need a little help.

The only trouble I have now with really big fibroids is that I do wake up to tinkle a few hours after going to bed. But if you need something you can take right up to your surgery date, you might give it a try.

Best wishes for a restful night.

Re: Sleep Aids...any suggestions

I have tried about everything OTC and Rx'ed. I do take Melatonin and it seems to help. I go to the Doc on Monday and am going to tell him about my trouble sleeping, mostly from nerves right now, and hope he can help with something! I am on an Air Force Base and they really hate to give out anything other than Ibuprofen which I can't take, so I get stuck with Tylenol (for me that's like taking a darn Tick-Tack!).
Hope you get something that helps you. I am with the PP can't take Ambium it too makes me a lil cookoo!
