Possible explanation as to why the first time after surgery isn't the best experience
I am 8 weeks today and have not yet had sex, but we've been very successful with with "outercourse" for the past 2 weeks or so. It does take a bit longer to have the big O, but it's so worth it
Anyway, as several of you know I have recently started working with a physical therapist who specializes in womens health. At my first appointment she did an internal exam to check for scar tissue formations (nad maybe adhesions ?) and also wanted to see how strong my pelvic floor contractions were. Turns out, she was not able to tell the difference between my "relaxed" pelvic floor and my contraction ~~ my pelvic floor was in a constant contraction. It's called"muscle guarding" and it's when your body tries to protect an area, such as my adbomen, after a traumatic experience. She told me that even if I had been cleard for sex, I would NOT want to do it right now as it would be very painful. I wonder if perhaps some of you are also dealing with a contrcted pelvic floor and that is contributing to a not-so-pleasant first time experience???
I had my second appointment today (2 weeks later) and my pelvic floor is still in a contracted state, but not quite as bad. At least she could feel my contraction this time. My "homework" is to do a kegal contraction and hold it for 7 seconds, release it and stay relaxed for at least 15 seconds prior to doing the next kegal. The goal is to train the muscle that there is an "on" and an "off". She did mention at today's appointment that sex at this point would be very theraputic. I'm having my GP check my cuff next week. Once I have the ok that it is all healed, I plan to start my therapy ~ haha.
Prior to seeing Christine, I was seeing a general PT for scar massage and redirecting my breaths down to my diaphram as I was only breathing into my upper chest after the surgery (another natural reaction after after having such invasive surgery). He then referred me to Christine as she could better assess my needs.
Very long story short.... I would encourage you to seek the help of a PT as you make your journey through recovery, and if you can find a women's health specialist, they ROCK! Our bodies really have undergone a MAJOR change and there are so many things connected to it. I think a PT can not only help you in the short term, but also guiding you safely back into excersing. Christine encouraged me, today, to start back with my yoga and arm workouts, in addition to my walking.
Best wishes for a successful recovery!

Possible explanation as to why the first time after surgery isn't the best experience
That sounds like a very reasonable idea. I am 8 weeks today as well and gotta tell ya the whole sex the first time did hurt me. Not crying out just fresh from the hospital pain, more a stabbing kinds pain on my cuff.
At my 7 week check I had to have silver n(something) put on one raw spot on my cuff. She said I could have sex when I was ready. We had experienced orgasm but I also found that weaker. I don't get the contractions of the muscle wall as much as before, always assumed it was my cervix dipping down which is no more.
It also could be the reason you explained.0
I am very upset that it wasn't as nice as I hoped it would be. I hated I cried afterward, now my shy hubby will take weeks to want to try again *sigh*.
Good luck on your adventure.

i went thru physical therapy earlier this year. I have pelvic floor myalgia and it had helped a great deal, my muscles stayed contracted as well. She thought it was from all the lap surgeries i had from endo plus 2 pregnancies. I wish you lots of luck and hope it helps!

Possible explanation as to why the first time after surgery isn't the best experience
I am 6 weeks post op ... was cleared last week by my doc but haven't told my DH yet. I'm SCARED TO DEATH after reading all the posts here! It seems nobody has had a good experience this early in recovery. I REALLY miss my DH and that part of our relationship but I'm equally scared of the pain. I'm going to wait till 8 weeks and try it then...

Don't be scared to try, just use lube and go slow. I know it my be TMI, but possibly get him to have his O first by other methods. Then he won't be as excited and have the ability to go slow:-)
Someone suggested to try on top so you can make it stop should it hurt you easier.
It all depends on how you are healing. I am still at 8 weeks dealing with a nasty spot on my outside scar. Odds are it is mirrored inside and I just can't see it. Not everyone experiences what I did!
I didn't mean to scare anymore. I just really think nerves and this muscle issue explained in this thread plays a part in my pain.
