Fibroids on Ovaries??

Can fibroids grow on ovaries? I saw a couple of posts here that state that fibroids can grow on the ovaries after the uterus is removed. I've searched for this on the internet, and I can't find anything to back this statement up. Does anyone know if this is possible?

To my knowledge, fibroids only grow on or in the uterus. I had an LAVH due to fibroids. My doctor said fibroids can grow on the cervix if that is left (since there is still uterine tissue on it). I kept my ovaries.

I agree with what Muffy327 said. I have not heard that fibroids can grow on the ovaries.

According to my gynecologist, fibroids can grow on an ovary, but it is rare - only 2% of fibroids grow on an ovary. I found this out at my annual exam in Sept, when my gyn found a mass on one of my ovaries. On the ultrasound film, it looked like it was attached by a stalk to my ovary, and my ca 125 test came back with a low number (thank God), so she said there was an outside chance it could be a fibroid. (When I had my surgery, though, (LAVH/BSO) on Oct 22, it turned out not to be a fibroid - it was a big cyst inside the ovary.)
I doubt if you have anything to worry about. You could ask your doctor if he/she has ever had a patient with a fibroid on an ovary, and what your risk might be, if any.

My doctor told me that fibroids can grow on ovaries and your cervix. I remember her saying that because it shocked me! I didn't know that. But, like Voyager54 said I don't know how common it is. I did opt to not take the chance on my cervix because I have such a bad problem with fibroids, but kept my ovaries!
