This is new to me. Recently diagnosed with fibroid actually thought I was having issues with my bowel, colon and bladder. I really don't care for trying to get thru day to day with these backaches, constipation and running to pee every 5 min. but not sure I want surgery either. I'm 54 and have not had a period since Jan.The fibroid is 8 centimeter with cysts on both ovaries. Probably the worst you can say is everything is managable but I seem to be shying away from a lot of things because of the discomfort later and as much as I hated vacumming before its truly took on a new meaning. As I was told I could try Lupron but were talking a long time trying to see if we get the result we are looking for. I don't want to rush this but I've had alot of health issues this year and I'm pretty worn out to appointments and bloodwork. Any suggestions

Hi - welcome!
I believe there is some information on this site in regard to "fibroid embolization" or something to that effect... I believe there are some non-surgical options or at least less-drastic solutions for fibroids and cysts you could look into.
Have a look around and check out "Hysterectomy Options".

Hi BHiggins,

The thing with a hyst is that in many cases it is ~elective~ surgery. That can be a tough call when it is our own body we are talking about. I went through a lot of emotions in deciding to have a hyst for fibroids. Most of all, I wanted my ~quality of life~ back.

As Intune101 mentioned, has your Dr. talked to you about possibly being a candidate for a UFE (Uterine Fibroid Embolization)?? The procedure helps to shrink fibroids.

With lupron...I did (3) months of shots before my hyst to shrink my fibroids enough for my LSH. Lupron is a ~band-aid~ on the problem - a temporary fix. Lupron causes temporary chemcical menopause and helps in the reduction of estrogen levels. Did your Dr. say what he wanted to do ~after~ lupron?? Possibly the on-set of menopause could help also after doing lupron. I was 46 when I had my hyst and my Drs felt that menopause - probably in my early 50's - was too far out to help with my fibroids.

Also, you might be a candidate for a less invasive hyst such as a TVH, LAVH or a LSH, the surgery I had. Here is a link on the different types of hysts:

After my lupron shots, my uterus with fibroids was at 9.1 cm. With 8 cm, as you mentioned, you might be a candiate for a non-abdominal hyst.

Best wishes,

Mary
