Upcoming hysterectomy - hospital stay and driving

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I am going to have to stay in the hospital, and, if so, how long? Also how soon after will I be able to drive?

Re: Procedure hospital stay and driving

I had my procedure on Monday morning, and was home by 6:30pm. I really think I should've stayed a bit longer, as my pain wasn't nearly under control, but I was more comfortable in my bed at home.

You may be able to find out at your pre-op appointment. When I first met with a gyne-oncologist, she told me the stay would be a few days. How long one stays and when they can return to driving will all differ based on the circumstances surrounding your surgery. I had a TAH and stayed 4 days/nights and I got the okay to drive once again after I had my 6 week check up.

Good luck to you and welcome to this awesome community!

Re: Procedure hospital stay and driving

I had an overnight stay, glad i stayed as the ride home was rough!! I was allowed to drive when i felt ready and was off meds. I didnt drive at all until after two weeks, and was 6 weeks before i drove very far at all. I really just didnt feel up to it. Listen to your body, it will tell you.

Re: Procedure hospital stay and driving

I had a LAVH and stayed overnight. The surgery was at 7:00 a.m. and I was discharged around 10:00 a.m. the next day. I have heard of people going home the same day but I was glad for the overnight stay.

I was released to drive at 2 weeks. Your pre-op appointment would be a good time to ask those questions, too! Hope all goes well for you!
