Upcoming hysterectomy 10/6 - I am a huge mix of emotions

I just had my uteran biopsy and got my sugary date yesterday and I am a huge mix of emotions ... This will be the first time I spent the night in the hospital without just having a baby so I'm scared .. I've had surgery before just doesn't make it easier

I felt the same way! I had a c-section, breast lump removed (benign), and a hysteroscopy with biopsy in the past, but I was never nearly as nervous as I was with my LAVH. My surgery was Tuesday, and everything went as planned. First day was rough, I was ok laying down & not moving, in fact there was less pain than I thought. However, it was difficult sitting up & standing up, even with the help of a nurse & my husband. The next morning was a little easier, and by the afternoon I was able to get up on my own & walk to the bathroom by myself. I am definitely improving pretty well.


I've always told my kids that, regardless of what they're worried about (test, game, dr appt), that the anxiety beforehand was the worst part because things are never as bad as we fear them to be. Guess I should've listened to my own advice. You'll do great! Just take everything slow.

((Hugs)) I'm in the same boat with you, 10/6 also, and I know exactly how you're feeling, both times I got the call for the surgery. I felt like the floor opened up and I was free falling, and at the same time so relieved and anxious about getting it all over with. It can't come soon enough but it can't be too far enough away either. It's such a mixed bag of conflicting emotions, I've had to chuckle at myself.

I've never been in a hospital for myself at all, let alone overnight, so this will be an experience for me too. Hang it there, we'll get through this, and I'm very encouraged by all the members that are already done

Your feelings and mix of emotions are very normal. This is one difficult surgery to face and digest. It is MAJOR SURGERY, so of course you are nervous. It is different than other surgeries.

It is hard to turn yourself over to someone - even when you have had surgery before. Just try to keep yourself busy to take your mind off your surgery. And know you are in good company.

Thanks ladies... I just read these responses and it helped calm my anxiety attack that was creeping up. If crazy how I want this surgery but I'm so scared of this surgery at the same time. I just keep telling myself to look at it as a mini vacation from mom duties lol ... Keeping busy is my plan .. Starting with a menu of crockpot freezer meals
