D&C, Hysteroscopy, Polypectomy on Blood Thinner?

Hello. I am so appreciative of all those who courageously share their experiences on this forum.

Has anyone on Xarelto (or some other blood thinner) had any particular issues with heavy bleeding/large blood clots after a D&C or hysterscopy or polypectomy or endometrial biopsy?

Five days ago, I had all of the above under general anesthesia at the hospital in outpatient surgery. The doctor found multiple polyps and one that was harder than the others that may be a fibroid. (I do have 2 small fibroids.) The pathology report isn't back yet.

I had the procedure in an abundance of caution due to some changes I had in my periods and spotting in between. I've had issues with painful, heavy periods for a long time, and pass large blood clots. I have adenomyosis and 2 small fibroids. I also recently learned that I am anemic, likely from all of this.

Anyway, I had pretty normal post-procedure symptoms on the day of and the next day -- just some mild cramping, spotting (bright red), occasionally small clots and feeling bloated. Heck, it was all way better than what I'd experienced the night before with the misoprostol!

The spotting picked up on the 3rd day and became more like a light menstrual flow. I also noticed more small clots. The cramping also increased a bit. Again, though, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
I went back to work that day (nothing strenuous) and felt very tired the whole day.

On the 4th day, things picked up and the bleeding and cramping became more pronounced. It felt as though I were starting my period. The fatigue feeling was also a bit more, and the bloating feeling was still an annoyance. I worked but took it slow.

Today, things seem to have progressed to what is now like a full pre-procedure period -- heavy bleeding (bright red, soaking overnight pads every hour), large blood clots (like the ones I had with my periods before the procedure, some close to the size of my fist), and heavier cramping. My doctor was not in the office today, but I spoke to his nurse practitioner who told me to rest, stay hydrated, take ibuprofen to help with the bleeding (i'd taken naproxen for the cramps) and take some more iron. She told me to call tomorrow morning if the symptoms were still occurring. It's been nearly 11 hours since she and I spoke, and this just keeps getting heavier. I really question if I'm having a full period now so soon after the procedure, but surprised by the large blood clots since I thought most of the lining was cleaned up.

Anyway, sorry to ramble. I just don't have a clue if this is within the normal expectations for this kind of procedure. I also can't help but wonder if the blood thinner medication is playing a role in this, too.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/experiences you can share.

Much appreciated!

D&C, Hysteroscopy, Polypectomy on Blood Thinner?

So. I don't have much experience with your particular issue... I did have a VERY heavy flow and large clots while on Xarelto and warfarin. It's normal. However, I do recommend you speak with your ob/gyn and family MD about what is going on. I was having clotting before I was on blood thinners and after I stopped them.

I waited until after I went off of the medication and had an endometrial ablation on June 22nd. I'm still getting used to the new me... but it's a weight off my shoulders.

I hope I helped. Let me know how you're doing.

Stephanie

D&C, Hysteroscopy, Polypectomy on Blood Thinner?

Thank you, Stephanie. It finally began improving yesterday. Today, it's pretty light by comparison. I talked with my Dr and skipped a dose of the blood thinner yesterday. Just took it now but hopefully things have had enough time to settle down. I am just feeling really wiped out but know that will get better. And I am grateful to know that everything is ok.
