How are you feeling at 6 months post op?

Hello,

I wish I had better news, but I feel like crap most of the time. I have gained at least 25 lbs, and I cannot get it off by walking like I used to be able to do prior to the hyster. I feel blah all the time! My mood is usually that I am a witch or I feel emotionally flat! I have kept both of my ovaries and after the surgery the dr. said they looked good, so I don't think it could be hormones. I just feel yucky, mean or I cry at the drop of a hat and I don't want to be around anyone or do anything. Things I used to enjoy I don't anymore. I have social avoidance issues too! I have trialed two antidepressants and so far no luck with them. I hope you all are doing better than I am!!! That would be encouraging!!!! Please Post all of you NOVEMBER 15 or CLOSE Hystersisters and let us know how you are doing~ Shari

How are you feeling at 6 months post op?

Hey Shari-
You know how I have been...same as you. Keeping busy is the only thing helping me. Walking if you have the time. I guess I never thought it would still be a hormonal roller coaster after 6 months. And the wieght gain? Yikes! In my next life I am going to a surgeon that is female andhad went through this or a male whose wife has.

How are you feeling at 6 months post op?

I am almost 5 months post op. I feel good, i have been really trying to work out, i think thats a good thing mentally. I think my hubby would say i sometimes snap. But since my surgery i now work 30 hours aweek compared to 15. He works from home now instead of driving an hour to LA. So i am not sure if its my hormones or just change of life style. I know i still have alittle swelly belly and have gained about 5 pounds. It would be great to have a dr to ck hormones. I had a large fribroid and thats why i had my hysterectomy, and i too kept my overies. I do take zoloft for anixity. only 25mg which i wonder if it is really doing any good or is it just mental. I at one time took 75mg so i think it for sure helps. I hope it can only get better. Even though i dont get a period i still feel the systems from it once a month, will that ever go away? i guess its a great excuse to be *****ie an eat chocolate. lol I really suggust working out! its the best medicine.

when will i feel great?

before i had the surgery my gyn said i would feel much better after and that my sex life wouldnt change . well!, i am not the same person any more. when i wake up during the night all i think of is death.i used to have happy dreams ,sometimes even sexy ones. now i have bad dreams every night, sexy dreams and even fantasies are all things from the past now.when i,m alone i cry a lot now.i,ve only been married for 2 yrs but i feel we are headed for divorce. i have thoughts of suicide at times but would never do that. i am not the same person and i dont even look the same . when i see pictures of me 2 years ago , its hard to imagine that i used to be that vibrant healthy woman, even though i was anemic at that time.now i,ve lost allmost half of my hair. my skin is very sallow. i have dark circles under my eyes. my facial muscles seem to have all dropped. i am very insecure now and any healthy woman seems like a threat.i am tired all the time and i cant tolerate much exercise. i do try to walk for an hour every day and eat much healthier.i ahve bone and muscle aches all the time. i cant tolerate estrogen. i am holding off taking anti depressants hoping that time, good nutrition and exercise will get things back to normal. but i have this cloud over my head and feel like i have aged 10 yrs over night and i am an old woman now. i keep telling myself,,a year. but when will i feel better?

I am two weeks ahead of you and have had no problems whatsoever. I cannot take hrt because of breast cancer. I have lost 10lbs even though I was at my ideal weight at the time of my hysterectomy. I have not problems with hot flashes, night sweats or any other menopausal symptoms. My energy levels are at par for where my blood counts are because of the cancer. My hair is thin but has been like this for a long time due to meds I take for the cancer. My skin has not changed at all, is somewhat dry but that too is due to the meds I take for the cancer. No difference in sex life - everything is fine there. I am a very careful eater. I don't eat anything white - no flour, sugar, white potatoes, white rice, etc. I don't eat red meat - my oncologist says they feed cattle too many hormones and antibiotics and my br cancer is est and pro positive. I walk alot, my lifting limit is 5lbs per arm because of the breast cancer so I do exercise around that limit. I do stay pretty active during the day and don't sit around too much - never had swelly belly after my hyst so the physical appearance of having a hyst was just never there - I did have a hematoma that cause a little swelling but that was gone by my 6 week checkup. I am 51 so I am a couple of years older than you so there is not a huge age difference. I would speak to my doctor if you don't like the way you are feeling - 6 months is a long time to be unhappy and can cause long lasting effect. I will say that I do see things differently being a cancer survivor - I have been given a second chance so I treasure every moment and grasp the brass ring every day - no matter what. Lynn

How are you feeling at 6 months post op?

I had TAH on Nov. 9 and don't feel horrible, but definitely not same person. If this experience did not change us, I think that that might be a problem. Just a thought. The world certainly looks different to me anyway. My mother was also diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer a couple days after my diagnosis, so I have really had to evaluate what is important and what can wait. And not everyone likes my decisions these days - oh well.

I do still feel unbalanced. I kept ovaries, but they are only working in spurts, so I suspect that is part of my prob. I have gained about 12 pounds and have been trying to exercise - started in March, but I am getting a LOT of stomach pain. Has anyone else been having his problem? My stomach is also still sore to the touch and sometimes have bladder pain similar to first days after hyst.???

My skin has also changed - much oilier and prone to blemishes. This is new to me as I have always had really good skin. GRRRRR.

still having depression

reading back through other peoples posts i relize that depression is my biggest factor here. to any one newly post op reading my posts i must mention that after surgery i felt great for about 2 weeks. then i had bladder complications and ended up in bed with a cath for over 4 weeks.it was very stress full and i cried all through x-mas and newyrs, i had been diagnosed with a vesicovaginal fistula and was told i would need another surgery. since then i have problems with granulation and have only had one silver nitrate treatment . it hasnt helped , i still have spotting which i,m not sure is from that or the bladder problem.its just taking so long to get things sorted out with dr. app,s so far apart. i have been taking no medications at all in the hopes that it would help things heal, but i do see that i have been very depressed since about6 or 7 weeks after the surgery. if i didnt have these complications i think i would of been great by now. it,s just taking way too long. thanks for the advise, helps put my head back on straight,,,,arletta
