Time frame for resuming intimacy after hysterectomy

I am 4 weeks post op. I had lap hysterectomy with cervix, uterus and tubes removed. I saw dr today and he said I was healing great and should be fine in two weeks. Even though I feel 100% and have no issues, I'm totally ok with that. Here's my issue-I am going with husband on a trip and will hit the six week mark that week. When I asked about that, he wouldn't clear until he could see me which won't be until I get back. Only appt was the 7.5 point. I think he's being overly cautious and think I'll be fine at six weeks. Any advice? Just curious how long everyone waited.

Re: Time frame for resuming intimacy

You should be careful resuming intimacy, because while you may feel great you may still have stitches internally. I think this is likely the reason your doc wants to check you prior to you resuming. When I went for my post-op at 5 weeks, my doc said that I could resume at 6 weeks, however, the stitches may hold on a bit longer than that. Mine were still in there at 8 weeks and I didn't want my hubby bumping into them and I don't think he wanted to bump into them either.

with falfrenzy.
I had my 6 weeks check and release last Friday. There are still internal stitches however there is a sense of " ut oh what if they are bumped or aggravated during ... ". When you get the Ok from your doctor, a bit of caution will still need to be exercised.

If outercourse was approved, perhaps try 1st and 2nd base. *smiles*

Thanks for advice. He did say I had a couple of stitches left.

Re: Time frame for resuming intimacy after hysterectomy

We resumed intimacy by outer course, with doctor's approval, at 3 weeks. Manual stimulation, lots of petting and touching, nothing in the vagina. It was great.

At my 6 week post-op appointment, I was told I needed to wait 2 more weeks. There were still stitches and some inflammation in my vaginal cuff, and my doctor wanted me to wait a bit for better healing.

Re: Time frame for resuming intimacy after hysterectomy

I was scared to have sex. I was reading all the Hystersisters that were having issue after sex. I also read other Hystersisters saying to stop reading the post and leave it in your hands.

It took me 12 weeks to have sex. He took his time and move slow. TMI I had no pain and no bleeding. I did have mild spams in the vaginal for a week but they pass.

Have your intimacy when you are ready.

I wholly agree with the others, you don't want to resume before the doc gives you the green light. If you still have stitches (some women still do at 6 weeks) and they rupture, you could be back at Day 1. You could find yourself cutting your trip short for a medical run home...or getting repaired in an ER somewhere outside of the reach of your doctor. Patience, dear Sister!
