epidural block for back pain
I have a large prolapsed disc at L5-S1 with assoc. arthritis. I had an steroid epidural done about 2.5 years ago. I've had 3 MRI's.
I stayed on a ward for some hours for observation as it can sometimes make you feel a little shaky. I wasn't allowed to drive home and had to have someone with me all times for the remainder of the day.
You have to curl into a ball with your kness into your chest AS FAR as you can before the injection and remain so whilst the needle goes in. I, personally, didn't find it very pleasant and although tried to be brave about it - I did cry. I think they expect this as the nurse assistant was very very good with me.
I did have an epidural 8years ago with my first child but was so 'out of it' with labour pains I didn't really notice it then!
As for pain relief - Some people find it helps others don't. I didn't and my surgeon wasn;t surprised when it didn't. (Don't really know why - it was he who referred me to the pain specialist!)
Email me with any questions I'll be happy to answer - but before Thursday when I go to the castle!
