A Little Panicked Here

My hyst is scheduled for August 15 (two weeks from tomorrow) and I'm panicking a little. Didn't even go to church this morning...stayed at home to stew over stuff!

A little background here...I only have one ovary left as I lost the other one 22 years ago to a huge dermoid cyst. Now it seems history is repeating itself on the other side (7cm cyst of unknown makeup) and I don't really have a choice. I'm a little frightened...okay, prayer helps...and my hormones haven't been right in years so I've dealt with hot flashes, insomnia, etc. for years but my biggest question is how long should I wait post surgery to begin HRT? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Sweetie, It is really up to you and your doctor.. I started Premarin right after I came home from the hospital( 3 days post). Some ladies get a patch placed on them immediatley after surgery. It just depends on your doctor's preferences. I would put a call in to your doc and ask what he prefers and then you can think about it and discuss it further with him if you have any trepidations or concerns. Good luck with your surgery1

Thank you...I've been doing a lot of reading and my dr's probably going to want to quit w/the number of questions I have for him on August 10! Thanks for the encouragement!

Memiownself: Hey, that is what you are paying your dr for, to answer your questions! And if your dr is willing to answer them, you know you have a good one and a good relationship! If you are going to have surgery, you want a dr with whom you have a good relationship.

Best Wishes! Take a notebook with your questions and a pen!

A Little Panicked Here

I'm almost 8 weeks post op TAH/BSO and have'nt started HRT yet. I can't believe it, but I don't need them. So far, I've only broke out in a few sweats that can be attributed to the heat or work stress and woken only a few times with night sweats, but not drenching. I've had no emotional changes for the worse - actually feel better without the PMS. My doc said estrogen usually stays in your body about a month post op, although I have heard otherwise on this site. I never know if syptoms are going to spring up, but my Mom had a very uneventful menopause, so I'm hoping I'm just taking after her

I agree about taking a notebook and a writing utensil ... for two reasons ... 1) the doctor will know you are serious about getting answers ... 2) I tend to forget things, even important things.

Thanks to All!

Thank you to all who answered and provided me some insights. My "stewing" phase seems to have abated, for now at least, and it's due in no small part to the advice and things I read here.

I will certainly be glad to be rid of the pain and constant nausea that this cyst is causing...and I'm looking forward to a better life in the Land of Hyster!!

Thank you, thank you all you HysterSisters!!!
