Hysterectomy with colostomy

new to site - unexpected TAH 3/11 due to tumor in ovary (benign amen) but also resulted in colostomy temporary for 3 months - all unplanned surgery just emergency! now feel lower abdomen is heavy, unsupported...can I wear any type support with the colostomy just next to belly button? any suggestions? Mary

Could you somehow cut a hole in an abdominal binder to work for you?
Maybe ask your dr. what he/she suggests. Best of luck...sorry you have been through such an ordeal...but what a blessing in your path report!

I work with many patients with big abominal incisions plus a colostomy. We just put an abdominal binder on over the whole business. Don't need a hole at all. I usually check the bag from time to time to be sure all is well there and not too much gas, but its a common thing for us. Hope you are doing better now.

PS, also often I "wrap" the colostomy with a washrag or pillowcase to keep it from being right up against the skin, under the binder. That makes it more comfortable. Obviously I'm talking a binder that goes from under the breasts to the lwr abd, not just a waist down type. That I haven't used so can't say how well it would work keeping things together. But standard abd binder---standard in my hospital. Seems to help a lot. I hope this helps. Hope its all getting better now for you, I'm glad tumor was benign.
