If so, did you take your cPap to the castle? Does this affect anesthesia?

Heidi
I have sleep apnea and it is really important to let your "a" man and gyn know that you have it. Also, some ladies do take their own cpap to the hospital, but again, check this with your hospital as it may have to be electrically tested by their people beforehand. Alternately, they may have one for you to use whilst you are there.
Regards

You should be able to bring your own cpap. Where I work the respiratory therapy dept is not set up to get cpas for a hospital stay. Once used by one patient I don't think they can be used by another without changing out all the tubing and that can be pricey. So they would bill it to you. They could probably just change the tubing face part but it isn't financially feasible to do this when we can just have patients being their own in. Tell your doctor and ask him to ok cpap for at bedside and definitely let your A man know about it. Sometimes they might run a continous pulse oximeter through the night to make sure you do ok, even with the cpap. I will tell you that I would much rather see someone come in with their own cpap than have to worry about them being more sedated than normal and have sleep apnea and not have it. I myself would be willing to let any of my patients use it even without a doctors order as it is what they do normally at home.

Thanks for info. I agree....I'm taking my cpap. Even though I don't use it all the time, I am sure it will be helpful in getting some REAL sleep. I'll be hooked up at just about every orafice! Ears plugged, cPap, IV, catheter.....what else? phew! :-)
