Blood disorder under control and green light

Just back from the hematologist and received the green light to schedule surgery. It is now scheduled for 08/12/04 at 1:30pm. Bad news is that I should start my period on 08/11/04. I know that they have seen it all before, but how embarassing it that? Usually I can't lay for more that 1-2 hours before a super tampon meets its match, I cannot imagine using a pad on surgery day on white sheets no less. I'm going to look like a murder victim before they get the first IV in.

Girls, talk me through this. Nerves were bad enough, but embarassment too! Yuck!!!

Don't worry, it won't be a problem.

Tell the nurse when you get there. You can wear a pad or tampon (or both!!!), & they can give you a little mat thing to sit on in case of any spillages, the same ones they use for women who have just had babies.

They will remove the tampon or pad when you are under the anaesthetic, so it isn't embarassing. They do this every day, and many, many women have been for a hyster with heavy bleeding.

I know all this because I was expecting a last visit from Aunt Flo the day of my surgery. In the end she was late and missed the boat!

Sorry about having your period but I agree that you shouldn't be embarrased about it. Maybe old "Aunt Flo" will come late for you this time
