Climbing Stairs Post Op?

I've a question regarding stairs post op.

We have only one bathroom in the house ... upstairs. My bedroom is on the main floor.

During the day, not a big deal .. I can stay upstairs for the most part... but I tend to wake up 2-3 times a night to use the bathroom.

Would I be better off making arrangements to sleep upstairs for the first little while, or are stairs not really a problem (it's a 'split' staircase .. 8 steps to a landing, then another 5 stairs to the top)

Thanks!

I had a TVH and my Doc said I could do stairs as long as I did them 1 at a time instead of 1 on each stair like you normally do them. If there is a way to stay closer then I would try and do that. Each person is different and if you will have an incision or not. I would ask your Doc. and see what they say. I had no choice but to do them I just took it slow and easy. Hope this helps some. Take care and have a nice day.

I agee with checking with your doctor for your own situation. I had a TAH and my doctor said steps were fine as soon as I got home. I had no trouble with them - not even any pain. DH did let me steady myself on his shoulder for the first 4-5 days, but I think I would have been find with the hand rail. Days 2-3 I limited my trips to 2 per day - just to be safe. You'll probably be fine, just give yourself extra time to get there because you'll move much slower than usual.

Personally I would move upstairs, I didn't have a problem with stair after my surgery. But when I woke up during the night to go to the bathroom, I had to go then! I probably would have wet myself if I to wait to climb stairs.

Ask you Dr.

I was limited to two flights of stairs a day for the first two weeks. And I definitely would not have wanted to do it in the middle of the night.
