Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 13-Jan 19,2014

If your hysterectomy was between Jan 13-Jan 19,2014 this is the place to post your progress during your hysterectomy recovery.

If you have a question about your recovery, please start a new thread to receive answers and support for your concerns instead of including the question in your update! There is information on how to start a new thread in this link: New Here? or you can use this link: Post a New Topic in the Post-Op forum.

Post how you are doing here when you are home and well enough to sit a few minutes at your computer.

We hope you are recovering well with plenty of rest and water and a bit of walking. Don't forget to pamper the princess!

How to use the Recovery Progress Reports thread:

  • 1. This thread is for the purpose of sharing updates on your recovery as you heal from your hysterectomy.

  • 2. Generally, ONE or TWO posts on this thread per member/per day is adequate to share your daily progress and to share encouragement with your surgery week Sisters.

  • 3. Remember to start a new thread on the Post-Op message board to ask your questions.

  • 4. The Progress Report threads now begin in our special forum for all Hysterectomy Recovery Reports and will remain there for you to always find your discussion.

  • 5. Remember all the love and support you got here as a pre-op member? Now it's YOUR turn to give back to the women in the Pre-Op Hysterectomy Support forum. Extend your hand and your hugs in replies to our pre-op ladies in waiting. This will complete our circle of women helping women!

  • 6. You can also share support and experiences with post-op members in all phases of recovery in the Post-Op Hysterectomy Support forum by replying on the new threads they create.

Smile - Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 13-Jan 19,2014 Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 13-Jan 19,2014

WELCOME TO YOUR RECOVERY THREAD BRAVE NEW PRINCESSES...

A warm welcome to you sisters who have finally made it to the "other side". Your new journey is just beginning and We hope the support you find here will help you navigate the road ahead a bit easier.

P83 and I are your Sunshine Sisters and have the privilege of helping you on your way to emotional, physical and mental healing...which honestly can prove a bit challenging at times. This thread is here for you so that you may share and continue to update your own recovery with others and know that you are not alone.

Last January I went for what I believed would be a "routine" well woman exam, and ended up having a radial hysterectomy one month later. I was full of doubts and fears, so my own Recovery Thread really pulled me through a lot of hard times as well as elated me when others had good news to share. P83 will be able to add different insight for you as well, about her experiences and surgeries so you can gain different perspectives. There are days when the posts will actually be joyful, when someone else shares a positive experience or shares a great tip for gas pains LOL.

We cannot emphasize enough how the healing and recovery process is different for everyone. While there are Progress Checkpoints, they must only be used as a guide. Initial recovery is between 2 to 8 weeks, but full recovery may take up to one year. I am an "official card carrying slow healer", so I have learned to be patient and listen to my own body. Our healing must be taken seriously and cannot be rushed, so please start off by being kind to yourselves and please accept help from your family and friends and co-workers! Retire your superwoman cape temporarily to allow yourself to focus on just YOU- a unique concept for many here who are so used to be independent and helping others.

There may significant things that you may feel both emotionally and physically...running the gamut from gas pains and bloating, to emotional distress and panic. This site was a lifesaver for me so hopefully you will also come here for answers to questions as well as much needed emotional support.

Your thread is what you sisters make it as you are the sole authors for this journey unfolding. You can feel comfortable knowing no one is here to judge you and you can feel free to just vent in a safe environment.

Try not to worry about what is "Normal". You and your sisters on this thread will be going through these milestones together, so you are not alone.

Also the Post Op Forum is a great place to post questions that you might have to sisters that are further along in their recovery, who may have different perspectives and experiences to share.

Please NOW is the time to begin your healing. Rest, rest, rest and drink and eat healthy food. The Articles on this site on food and diet tips are amazing and really helped me. Just as our recoveries are different, so are our appetites and level of pain. So please try not to worry if you are experiencing something new.

Again, P83 and I are here to assist you in your journey and assure that you are not alone.

"Life is NOT about waiting for the storm to pass, it is learning to DANCE in the rain". Vivian Greene

We can't wait to hear from you. Welcome to Recovery!!!

Marcia

Today was my day. I had a laproscopic hysterectomy conserving my ovaries this morning. I slept most of the afternoon and am still in bed with the legs pumps on and catheter. Pain is bearable- just using paracetamol. Hot packs on the shoulders for the gas pains. Home in the morning. Pain was not what I expected in recovery. Last op I had I had a spinal with pain reflief pump so was totally pain free from start. I was a bit shocked it hurt! I have so much praise for the staff here. From the admin to ward. All the staff were fantastic.

Home this afternoon after my TLH yesterday. Biggest issue at this point is my bladder and really sore from rectocele. My abdomen is just a little sore. Hoping gas pains subside soon.

Happy that it's over! Hoping to feel better tomorrow and to come off the catheter on Thurs.

So glad you made it to the other side! If you need more or perhaps a different pain relief, please speak up. It sounds as if you are getting great care from the staff and that they want to keep you as comfortable as possible.
Please remember to have a small pillow handy for the ride home from the hospital as it really does help for cushioning bumps.
Keep us posted how you are doing.

Had endone this morning for shoulder pain. I was told about it but didn't realise how much it hurts. I'm a pretty tough cookie & it made me cry. All good otherwise. Been up for a shower and catheter out. Going home once I pass the bladder test.

I had my total hysterectomy yesterday morning at 7am. I convinced my doc to let me go home because I really don't like hospitals. This is my 3rd surgery since 9-17-13 a day I have to say it has been the easiest recovery so far (*fingers crossed*). I am 30 years old and have Stage II ovarian ca. This was an extremely difficult decision as I don't have any children.

My hysterectomy was done with the da Vinci by a very experienced oncologist. He told my family it went very well. I was out of recovery and in my hospital room by 10:30! I slept off the anesthesia for most of the day. They took my Foley out around 2:0 and by 2:30 I was urinating well. This surprised me as he had done a cystoscopy and taken a biopsy from my bladder.

I'm less than 24 hours post op and feel pretty good. Of course the usuals: extremely sore throat and harsh voice and some pain. But the pain is nothing compared to my last surgery in which my omentum and lymph nodes were removed as well as 15 biopsies taken. I could barely move for a week. For this one I am getting up relatively easy to use the restroom.

I apologize for being a bit long-winded. Between the anesthesia, pain meds, & cancer head I can ramble a bit.

Post op day 1 from TLH. 830 AM Doc was already in, catheter out, drowning myself w fluids so I can pee and go home! Sore so just took percocet. Gas pain spasm x3 yesterday scared me so. Spasm was on my right side....like a stich from running that wouldn't let go. I was so scared I actually yelled out for help. As soon as the nuses sat me up and told me to breathe through it like big slow yoga breaths it began to subside. Toral IV was great too. Helped me relax, took pain away and didn't feel wacky. Very tired though. Bloated belly. Can't wait to get home to my bed. Bitter sweet though. Had to put my allie cat to sleep the day before surgery. 19 years old, fell down stairs and broke hip....poor thing couldn't walk. I m glad I was there though to make the decision and not someone else having to make it for me. My friend said he heard how animals give what life they have left to their loved ones for strength and he witnessed this before. So thank you to my sweet little allie cat who has been with my through most of my adult life....I love u and miss u soooo!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jan 13-Jan 19,2014

I had my laparoscopic hysterectomy on Monday (kept ovaries) at 2:00. I was in a nice private room by around 6:30. I didn't sleep at the hospital though. They removed my catheter at 1:00 am and I was in the bathroom peeing every hour! They kept forgetting to give me pain mess also. I think I hit the nurses button 10 times that night. She was just awful. I said my throat hurt so bad and she said try coughing, Thank god my Dr came in early Tues morning to release me. I slept a lot yesterday and had a lot of gas pains. I am taking Motrin and gas x. Haven't tried the Percocet yet as I'm afraid it will make me sick. I'm trying to eat but I don't have much of an appetite. Today I feel pretty good. I slept great last night and today woke up and my husband made me toast eggs and peppermint tea. I took a shower and am so tired already! Just happy to be home though!
