How to tell people about my surgery???

I told my two sisters, my boyfriend of course, my female supervisor who used to be a nurse. Thats IT!! No More!!

I work with mostly guys. I made the mistake of blurting out Im having surgery and one asked what kind. I replied "its a female thing". Afterwards I was kicking myself and regretting it. Im in fear of him spreading the word and people thinking its an abortion maybe!!!!!!!!!! Im 39....most at work think Im a few years younger. I cant imagine them thinking what it really is. Not to mention how I waddle around in pain holding my bloated belly and achey back looking like Im pregnant. I wont be going back with bigger boobs either...although Im sure theyll be checking me out to figure out if thats what I had done. Most of them are creeps!!!!!!

I wish I hadnt said anything to my coworker at all. I should have just said Im taking a personal leave of absense for the holidays. Its none of their business what Im doing really. ARGGGHHH!!!!

How to tell people about my surgery???

I told my co-workers as soon as I found out that I was having the surgery. We are an extremely tight bunch and genuinely care for each other. My boss was very supportive but being that it was (and still is) and extremely busy time, it was just one more thing that was added to her stress load.

I told my family exactly what kind of operation I was having. Can't hide it from them. I feel honesty is the best policy.

How to tell people about my surgery???

Beth,

It has nothing to do with being ashamed, I just don't believe that my surgery is any one else's business.

How to tell people about my surgery???

I am a teacher so was able to book my surgery for summer time when school is out. But I have taught summer school so had to let people know I would not be doing it this year. All I said was that I was having some abdominal surgery that would require about 6 weeks to heal. Most people were fine with that. My dentist did ask but apparently that is because he needs the information for medical history and whatever medication I was taking. He did say that he wasn't just being nosey, but that he needed the information. I had some major work done just before surgery. I also had to turn down a short job because I wasn't well enough but still I just had to say I was not healed well enough to stand for long periods at that time. There were a few people that I knew better and I told them that I was having a hysterectomy. When I returned to work, it was helpful that some people knew it was major surgery, because I was tired. They were all supportive without being pushy for details. My family all knew and no one wanted details - cowards! I am not sure that one of my DSs was really aware that I had surgery - too self-centred. The other kids were very caring and helpful. I sent my DH to the surgery website when he was ready. So I told a lot of people different things and it was fine.

How to tell people about my surgery???

I work with mostly men and they knew I was in a lot of pain before surgery. Our agency has a policy that allows us to donate leave to people who will be short what they need for incidents just such as this. In the agency-wide memo, it just read that I'd be out for 6 weeks recovering from surgery, but the squad I work with knew what I was going in for. Most of them were very supportive. They were also very protective anytime I was around the inmates. We all IM each other at work, helps cut down on the phone calls and radio traffic, so I could talk to them while I was home recovering as well. I got a lot of well wishes and cheerful greetings, which I appreciated.

I'm back at work again and from the moment I walked in the door, I had 40 "big brothers" watching out for me and telling me to take it easy. I'm on light duty until my incision is completely healed shut, so I don't have to worry about being babied half to death out on the floors.

Guess I'm lucky to work with such a great bunch of people.
