5 weeks post hysterectomy: Feeling like a recluse

I'm 5 weeks post op and I am having increased feelings of not wanting to leave the house. I thought at this point I would be dying to get out and feel normal, but instead, I dread invitations to dinner and shopping. My husband is getting anxious to have a life outside of the home again and I can't blame him. I have no desire to meet up with friends and I feel anxiety when I think about standing in a long checkout line or dealing with a crowded parking lot.I have been struggling with insomnia and night sweats for the last two weeks. I had a bladder repair/sling and A&P repair, some complications with surgery, including an accidental cut made on my rectum that required a general surgeon to be called in to repair. I came home with foley cath for the first week, and had to self cath for the following 2 weeks. Needless to say, it has been a rough recovery. Are my anxieties about going out I to the world justified? I worry about getting myself into a situation I can't get out of. I don't know if I can explain it any further than that. Thank you for any advice!

Re: Feeling like a recluse

Sorry to hear that your recovery has been difficult. I really think that it would be a good idea to get some counseling, given your fears about going out. Also check in with your gyn, hormone issues and lack of sleep may also be contributing to your state of mind. You obviously can't live your life staying inside by yourself. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Re: Feeling like a recluse

Thank you so much for your advise! It really means a lot to know there are other people out there! I go in to see my OB this morning. I will definitely talk with him about what's going on. I know sleeping just a few hours a night is probably one of my major issues, and is leading to these feelings I'm having. Thanks for your support- it means the world to me!
