Going to the castle Feb 20

HI

I put my first post on today, boy how incredible it was to hear from some of you. I'm new at this, so please bare with me, I will learn the abbrev. and static smiles I swear. I having the TAH Feb 20. I was extremely scared this morning, but after finding this website, and reading all of the wonderful knowledge and the very nice responses to me, I'm not near as scared. I would like to know how common is it to get sick from the morphine? I have read some of you ladies had that problem. I also would like to know where you ladies think I would be more comfortable to set up my recovery room? In the living room with the recliner, but having to climb stairs to go to the bathroom, or upstairs in my room where I have a bathroom, but just the bed, no recliner? I would also like to know when do they take the catheder (sp) out?

Thank you all again, this website has made me feel like a "Princess".

Relax Shelley

Glad to hear you will be a princess soon!! Don't worry, this waiting is the hardest part of all of it !! Sounds silly, but it's true.
I too was worried about the effects of morphine, but had no problems with it at all. In fact I really did not use it much at all, the strong ibruprofin type pain relievers were fine for me. If you have had some sensitivity to narcotics in the past, just let the doctors know, and you get a anti nausa drug mixed in. As for your accomodations.. you may want to stay a couple of days in you bedroom cause you want to drink lots of water and go to the bathroom often, so you will want to be on the same floor as the bathroom !! The flight of stairs once a day is not bad, but they advise against more often than that. The catheter was no big deal at all.. my surgery was at 2:00pm, and at about 7:00am the next morning they took out the catheter. There was no discomfort at all with it. In fact my discomfort was very minimal.
At this point you may want to concentrate on taking good care of yourself... eating well, exercising, etc.. this will help you body recover quickly..and relax !!!.... Becky
