Dr. wants to wait before trying HRT. Has this happened to you?
I had my two week post op from my TAH/BSO for fibroids. My Dr sent me home without HRT.(I didn't recieve any when I left the hospital either.) I have only had 4 hot flashes. I haven't had any the past week. I had one crying jag but it could have been from exhaustion. My Dr. wants me to wait to prescribe HRT. He thinks I might not have a big problem with symptoms. I understand where he is coming from, why give HRT with all the side effects if it is not needed or it can be handled. I agreed to try it without on the condition that if it does become a big problem I can call him and he will perscribe something over the phone to the pharamacy. He said we can bring up the subject at my 6 week postop appointment and see how it goes from there.
Is this wishful thinking? Have I just been lucky? I understand estrogen can be stored in your system for a while. How long? Will it hit tomorrow or next week? I would like to give it a try but am I fooling myself? I'm only 45 and I haven't even started perimenopause. Has anyone here had TAH/BSO and didn't start homones because a lack of menopause symptoms?

Dr. wants to wait before trying HRT. Has this happened to you?
GKnee,
I am 43 years old and was not in perimenopause when I had my TAH/BSO. I am not taking any HRT due to breast cancer risk. It is 8 weeks today with no hormones, and my symptoms are not that bad. I do have a temperature problem at night when in bed, I get hot, then cold, then hot....I have also had some problems with sleeping, but I find that taking Tylenol PM is enough to help me sleep. Those are my only symptoms. My Dr. said if I don't have any other symptoms now, then I probably never will. I hope he is right. I don't know how long estrogen stays in the body, but I would think it is all gone by 8 weeks. You and I may indeed be the lucky ones whose menopausal symptoms aren't that bad.

Dr. wants to wait before trying HRT. Has this happened to you?
Hi I am 41 had TAH/BSO on 31 October. Was given oestregen HRT but havent taken it yet as I had (hopefully all gone) endometriosis and am not sure if I want to take the risk of any old bits flaring up.
At first it was like SLAP and I was flashing hot then cold but now just night sweats. Hoping to see my GP soon to discuss this further, but for now can handle the sweats if thats all I am gonna get.
Regards

Dr. wants to wait before trying HRT. Has this happened to you?
Hi,
I had TAH/BSO on 24th August, I am 43, I did not start ERT until 7 weeks after my operation.
I had Endometriosis so had to wait, my surgeon reckons he removed it all but any microscopic endo left behind that he couldn't see means I am now playing the waiting game, estrogen can feed left endo.
Before my operation I had Zoladex imlants which puts you in a menopausal state, the idea was to shrink the endo and prepare my organs for surgery. I had hot flashes in the day and horrible night sweats they were the worse so all in all I was without hormones for 15 weeks before I was prescribed ERT, I felt awful and wasn't myself.
I don't intend to stay on ERT for more than 5 years I read that longer than 5 years increases the chance of breast cancer more, there is none of that in my family but I just don't want to take that risk I will be 47 by then.
I am on Femseven patch 75mcg which is the UK version, my doctor said he will prescribe Progesterone aswell if the endo flares up.
The thing I miss the most is my Libido it is none existant  , I was quite the opposite before my operation.
The thing I don't miss now is the horrendous pain so I must be at least thankfull for that.
All the best,
Elaine x

I didn't start hrt right away because I didn't have symptoms until 5 1/2 weeks. Then the hot flashes started coming pretty heavy and I had horrible itching (possibly from low estrogen) so I started low dose Premarin. I've been taking it for 5 days now and things are starting to get better.

I forgot to add the itching actually started before that I just didn't realize what was causing it.

I didn't start anything right away. My doctor and I lightly discussed the options at my first follow up and then again gave me options at my 6 week check up. But I barely have issues so I'm just taking soy tablets and doing great. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
