Date set, I'm going in!!

Lord, what a whirlwind of emotions getting to this point. My gyn finally agreed that I needed a hysterectomy after opinions from 2 other doctors. But then, she said she wasn't comfortable doing it! I don't know why and she was very vague. For some reason I got the impression she just wanted me to go away. She was great when all I needed was a pap smear but as soon as I started having problems she didn't seem to want anything to do with me. I think she is more interested in birthing babies. So now I not only needed surgery but I was faced with finding a surgeon out of the gazillion surgeons around here. When I finally got an appointment it wasn't until April 22. I was sooo disappointed because I wanted to be able to travel over Memorial Day.

Anyway, I called the doctor yesterday to see if they had any cancellations this week. They had one that afternoon! So I met the doctor, really liked him and he's going to do the surgery. It's already been scheduled for April 28. Insurance has already been approved, pre-ops set up and everything. Now all I have to do is wait...sigh. I'm so relieved to have it almost over with.

I'm glad this is finally on the move.

Docs are people too. My son is a pediatric oncologist - and even other docs havea hard time with that one. I'm sure you know poeple who are always calm, strong, etc - and then others who are always flustered. It's the same for docs (even if we would like to think of them as totally capable and dispassionate)

Maybe your gyn just can't handle the harder side of gynecology (gob forbid she ever has a baby take a 'bad turn' during delivery, but then you pass them off to another specialist).

DS has always said when it gets to be too much for him that he will do a residency in PS and join his uncle.
