Abdominal pain up high. Popped stitch?

I had an LAVH that turned into a TAH midway through the operation so I have both sets of incisions. I'm 5 weeks post-op today. I had a little infection in my left LAVH incision and my TAH incision at 2 weeks but it seems all fine now. The infected part of the incisions are not completely healed on the outside yet but they are finally starting to get there.

So, enough background. My left LAVH incision is in the normal place...I guess. To the left of my belly button and about 3 inches down on the inside of my hipbones.

Anyway, yesterday I had a really sharp pain while rolling over in bed. I was rolling onto my left side and I wasn't trying to sit up or doing anything strenuous. It was pretty painful and I thought I had popped a stitch! It was a sharp pain that felling like a tearing pulling and then releasing. I checked my LAVH incision immediately and found that the pain was on the left but about 3 inches ABOVE my bellybutton! 6 inches above my actual incision. The pain faded after a couple of minutes (sharp at first and then it hung on for a bit). I didn't feel odd or see anything so I told my family and went on.

Then last night I was getting out of a chair. I've done it so many times since I've been home I wasn't really thinking about it and it happened again! I looked and everything seemed normal. I thought I might be slightly swollen in that area but my SO looked and said that he couldn't see anything and it was really hard to tell if I could see it either.

Has anyone ever heard of this? Did I pop a stitch (twice in the same day)? Was it some weird adhesion that let go? Do they have stitches that high? It's So far away from where any work was done. It's closer to my ribs than my uterus! Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Abdominal pain up high. Popped stitch?

Hi coderchick
I'm wondering how you're doing with this now? Has it happened again and are you still in pain from it? If it's still bothering you I think you should call your dr and ask them what they think. When you have new pain that continues and can't be explained it's always a good idea to have the dr's opinion about it.

There were times when I had sharp pains similar to what you're describing, but they weren't in this same place and they didn't persist. It's so hard to know what you might be feeling with something like that. If you get some information be sure to let us know what the dr said. I hope this is better now.

Re: Abdominal pain up high. Popped stitch?

preciouspearl, thanks for checking up!

The pain only lasted about 5 minutes each time. It hasn't happened again and I feel okay. It was just a very odd pain in a very odd place.

I'm thinking that if I had popped a stitch it would continue to hurt or there would be another symptom...I guess.

Here's hoping that it doesn't happen again!
