What about stairs?

My tah/bso is on June 20th. I have 4 steps to climb to get into the house. How do you manage steps after surgery? And should you try to include that in your walk (short walk in the house) everyday?

What about stairs?

I have stairs to get in the house too, as long as you are careful and go slowly, you should be ok. the first week or so, it might be a bit of a challenge but I'm now four weeks out and steps are not an issue now!

when I asked the doc, she said "go back to kindergarden"
I looked a little puzzled so she explained that kids go up and down steps differently and that's how it should be done for awhile-both feet on one step!

What about stairs?

I had 2 steps to get in the door and a full flight to get to my bedroom. I had someone walk behind me going up the first couple days. Whoneedsit is right. That's exactly how I managed. One foot up, then brought the other up to match. I definitely needed a railing, or at least something to hold onto to steady myself. I went out to the grocery store at the end of my 2nd week (just for the ride and to get out of the house) and found I still needed to hang onto a person or a column to get up on the curb.

Coming down my flight of stairs, I had someone stay in front of me for the first couple days. However, I used the wall to lean against the whole way down. Found a nail where I had taken a picture down and forgotten to take the nail out! Woke me up quick that morning

I had spoken to some women at work who's physicians restricted stairs, but when I got home, I couldn't figure out why. I came down once in the morning and went up at bedtime just fine.

Good luck!!
