UTI common several days after surgery?

I am on day 8 of recovery and now I feel like I am getting a bladder infection. No blood in the urine so far but I feel like a nagging sensation like I have to urinate even though I just did. I think I need to look up an after hours clinic and get in tonight. UGH! Or is that weird sensation just a normal part of recovery, anyone have this experience?

Re: UTI common several days after surgery?

Yes and Yes.

Actually, both are common. To feel the weird tugging and nagging sensation, and even to have pain with urination. And, to get a UTI after surgery is not uncommon either.

I had my doctor check for UTI three times during my first 6 weeks of recovery. I did not have one, but was glad i had him check as it eased my mind.

I have had other surgeries where I did get one, it seems the cath makes it quite common.

If you are concerned, go get checked. It never hurts to be sure.

Re: UTI common several days after surgery?

It is better to have it checked out if you are concerned. Many of us have no sensation of needing to go after surgery and I was one of those. Please get back to us with what you find out.

I had one post op and got antibiotics before I left the hospital and then again 2 weeks out. Not sure how common it is for others but certainly was for me.

I had a bladder infection a few weeks after surgery.

Go and see the Dr.
Don't be any more uncomfortable than you have to be.

That nagging sensation is yucky, I know!

I am having the same experience; I went to the dr. today and got a prescription for antibiotics. I think post-hysterectomy UTIs are common.

Good luck!

Re: UTI common several days after surgery?

I had the same experience. At first, I thought my bladder was spasming from having the catheter. It took about 2 days for me to realize it was something more. If it continues, I would definately call the docotor. Better to be safe than sorry. I think it is pretty common to get a UTI after a hysterectomy. You can see a lot of us here have had them. Best wishes to you.

I never had that...but, I do have a cloudy discharge now and then. No blood etc... Just clear to yellowish. Will call the doctor Monday or Tuesday if it continues or gets worse.
