They might be taking my ovaries. I won't know until they are done. Had my consult, surgery is on December 13th as I figured it would be. Having an LAVH....possible BSO. Not happy....in fact I am quite nauseous over this.

tpierce75,
I'm in the same boat. My surgery is Dec.31. I can't decide if it's better to keep the ovaries or not. I don't want the PMS anymore. And I'm afraid of surgical menopause. What is your biggest fear in losing your ovaries??

why might you have to have them removed?
since your surgery is over a month away, you also have plenty of time for a second opinion.
i hope things work out the way you want them to...good luck.

that was a BIg deal for me to. I found it easier to leave it up to my body and simply told dr if they are fine nothing wrong with em leave em if there looked to be some issues with them then take em. I had no idea what they looked like to base my choice on so i left it to my body to make the call. Well my boday was screaming out i guess left one was horrible with endo and th eright all though not as bad was still bad so they left . Its really hard to make such a life choice. You will make the best choice there is for you whatever that is . Have faith in you and knowing your body and go with that.

My doc said that if there is any sign of endometriosis, he will remove both ovaries. I understand why he would do this, I just didn't understand everything about endometriosis. I have done a lot of reading on it today. I will be 32 when I have the surgery, and the thought of menopause and HRT makes me sick. I had a lump removed out of my right breast in 2001, (fibroid tumor). My family history is cancer, cancer, heart disease, and more cancer. I don't know everything there is to know about HRT, but I know that my doc didn't want to put me on birth control pills after I had that lump removed because of the estrogen, and a lot of breast cancers are estrogen based. I will come to terms with this, I will accept it, and I will make the most out of whatever I need to do to stay healthy afterwards....just the initial shock of hearing that he may take my ovaries bothered me....I didn't even think about it being a possibility. I have the upmost respect for my doc and put all my cards on his table, so I know in my gut he would not do anything that didn't need to be done. You guys are great, thanks for letting me vent! ha ha

you can always tell your dr that you strongly prefer to keep your ovaries, so if theres any possibility, please do so. let him know that going into the surgery.
i know the whole thing is so scary. just keep doing lots of research so youre very aware of everything that can happen.

I am torn about the decision. I don't want to lose my ovaries, yet if there is any sign of endo, I want them gone. I just don't want the side effects....oh, if only in a perfect world we secreted our hormones from our eyeballs instead of our ovaries....sorry just being silly. My friend had a hysterectomy and her doctor left her ovaries even though there was a little bit of endo and less than two years later she was back in having them removed. If the endo feeds off of your hormones or ovaries or whatever, then I don't want to take the chance of going back in to surgery. So, all in all, I am coming to terms with the fact that they may take them, I am just afraid of the unknown territory afterwards.
