My Fellow Ladies-In-Waiting

My op is in 20 days and I have started thinking about things I won't be able to do.

I have a 2 bedroom place and one bedroom has an ensuite. I'm going to move into this room. Already worked out getting on and off the loo. Just have to remember not to put the lid down. Still got to to practice getting in and out of bed. .

Purchased my eye mask so I will be able to sleep. Thanks for that hint, as I would never have thought of it

Already started to put stuff on lower shelves and the reverse. Will have to re-arrange the loungeroom. Lounge I sit on is way to soft but I have got another one that has armrests.

So far, I'm not a bit nervous. I'm actually looking forward to being in hospital and meeting new people. Not having to get my own meals.

I have a question about one thing. Why the granny knickers? Are they for support?

Probably as my due date gets closer I might have some more questions.

So glad that I found this forum otherwise I would have been completely in the dark as to what to expect after my op.

Hi!

The term "granny panties" (or knickers as you say in your corner of the world ) refers to underwear which is a little more, well, modest than some of us wear. It means briefs (not bikinis or similar) and beyond that, it means a size or two bigger than usual to account for a swollen tummy for a while. Many (((sisters))) will buy some, but only take some out of the package so they can be returned in the event that they are not needed, as everyone is different and some don't experience swelly belly.

Hope this helps.

I know what granny knickers are I just need to know the reason for them.

Had my pre-op today and actually asked about support afterwards. I was told to get a girdle for the support.

Was also told that I have early stages of cervical cancer not uterus cancer. So they will be taking everything. Having a c-section with a scar about 10cm.

Nurse told me the wards are unisex and she suggested that I wear a bra.

Still feeling great about everything

I had a tah/bso with a bikini line incision. I did get some "granny panties" that were a couple of sizes larger than I normally wear. The reason was because I couldn't bear to have anything that hit the incision like bikini or low riders would. The larger sizes were for comfort too, I couldn't stand anything snug at first. I used a light control panty ( normal size ) after a few weeks and it worked well for me.
