Deciding wether to have hysterectomy

Hello. I am quite new here.

I have a large intramural fibroid it is over 9cm. My uterus is just below my belly button.

I have tried using a Mirena but that caused me a lot of problems. I had to have it surgically removed.

I am 42 and don't wish to have more children. I have thought about having just the fibroid removed. the doctor told me it would still be a huge surgical procedure because of its size.

I would love any input.

A hysterectomy is such a final step that you are right in exploring your options and alternatives.

Here's a link to our Options resources , I don't know if your Dr. is thinking a myomectomy as a possible instead of a hysterectomy. Yes it would still be a surgery and possibly you could start with a myomectomy that if necessary they would convert to a hysterectomy.

I didn't have a myomectomy so maybe other members will stop by and give you their perspective if they had one.

You also might want to pursue a second opinion as well, just to make sure you are getting all the bases covered.
