Depression after surgery

I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago and left my ovaries. I had another surgery 4 weeks ago and had my ovary and appendix removed because of pain from endometriosis. This surgery was more painful than the first one and I returned to work this week and am very depressed and anxious. Is this normal? I am seeing my doctor tomorrow and I'm not suicidal. But the thought of returning to my stressful job is unbearable right now. Amy I crazy? I am not rich, so I need to know if coverage of my short term disability will continue. Has anybody else ever dealt with this? Or am I just being weak and need to suck it up?

Re: Depression after surgery

Depression is very real. Talk to your doctor, yesterday. Get the help you need. Take care of you.

Re: Depression after surgery

So sorry, sister, that you're having a rough time and you're quite right to reach out to your doctor. Let me just say, though, that I'd like to think that NO ONE here in the sisterhood would ever till you to just suck it up! Surgery is a trauma to the body and the weakness that comes afterward, along with the pain and lack of activity can make even the strongest sister get the blues. My mantra for myself is: "Don't get mad at yourself for not feeling better faster." Since your hysterectomy was 5 years ago, you might check out other forums like Aching Hearts or Road Less Traveled or Separate Surgeries: these could be appropriate for ongoing issues. But please do consult your doctor, try to get as much time off as you need, and see whether counseling might help in addition to whatever is happening physiologically.
Mostly, you are not alone: there is a loving community of sisters here to support you.
Many hugs from Romy
