Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 11/9: New and nervous

Isn't it great to get REAL experience here?

I dealt very well with the pain and took only about 2 1/2 - 3 pain pills in halves. Everyone is different going in to surgery with different diagnosis, procedures being done, and pain tolerances. The main thing about pain meds is not to use them just as a crutch, but your body NEEDS to rest to heal, and if you are in pain, you won't rest as well. Don't base your body's response on what someone else experienced, do what is right for you.

Pain meds can add to the constipation issue. Some of our sisters can tell you what helped( -not in my experience).

Best wishes!

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 11/9: New and nervous

I didn't have a problem with constipation, probably partly because I did a bowel prep and there was nothing in there, and partly because I didn't take narcotics. I was not in pain when I awoke, nor really ever. Of course I was a little sore when I moved around at first, and when I coughed or sneezed, but nothing to the point of driving me to take meds for it. I didn't have any bleeding after.
