anyone else taking luvenox?

Hi there,

I was sent home with Luvenox to prevent DVT's. Wondering if anyone else is taking this as well??

Re: anyone else taking luvenox?

I took it for 10 days post op. Quit taking it earlier than the original 25 days prescribed with Dr. ok. Didn't have side effects but based on my own research thought that length of time seemed extreme for my case. Apparently they did not even prescribe lovenox up until 2 years ago.

apparently so. however, it does seem to prevent most dvt's post-op. Annoying shot though

Re: anyone else taking luvenox?

I too have been giving myself these shots. I was given a 14 day supply that I was to start the day after I left the hospital and have two more to go. Woohoo!! I did have a DVT about 13 years ago so I appreciate the precaution. Also my mom died from a pulmonary embolus from a clot so I know it is nothing to fool around with.

Scary! Apparently, it was originally MADE for people who had previous DVT's. It seems to work well for most people.

Good to know you are almost done with no problems.

Re: anyone else taking luvenox?

Thanks, Scarywitchy! I will be happy to be done with them. It will feel like one less hurdle on this recovery road. I have been counting them down ever since the halfway point! How are you doing with yours?

Re: anyone else taking luvenox?

I am on lovenox too, but I was on coumadin prior too and now again after the procedure because of a clotting disorder I have. I should only have to do 7 days, because the coumadin will be therapeutic by then. They are very painful shots, indeed!

Re: anyone else taking luvenox?

I was given a shot lovenox in the hospital but was not sent home with any... interesting as I had a DVT about 6 1/2 yrs ago. The injection site was very bruised (tiny but bruised).

Had a bit of a strange reaction with my second shot, but everything seems to be fine now. Thanks for asking!!
