Hello yall!

I had my hysterectomy (total except ovaries) on December 9th... I have been having hot flashes and night sweats since I've been home...to the point I have to change my clothes and/or shower... I thought with keeping my ovaries I wouldn't have this issue. I am 26 yrs old .

Has anyone experienced this?

Re: Sweats

I think it's quite a common complaint right after hysterectomy. Your ovaries will have 'shut down' during surgery and might take a few days to start working properly again.

I had a LAVH & I still have my ovaries. I am experiencing the same thing with hot flashes. I didn't expect this at all.

I'm the same, I was warned that you can be plunged into menopause after a hysterectomy but also that it may take a while for the ovaries and hormones to settle I've been having flushes too but they are just at night now so am waiting to see what happens next, my doctor wants me to wait three months to see how I settle. I'm not having any emotional probs or anything else I've googled about the menopause, so staying optimistic.

I had the hot flashes and night sweats too! What happens is that the ovaries go into shock because their main blood supply - the uterine artery - has been severed, and they can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to establish a new supply. In the meantime, avoid common flash triggers, including smoking, caffeine, alcohol, overly hot or spicy foods, and rapid temperature changes. Keep your bedroom around 60-65°, choose loose fitting, cotton nightclothes, and arrange your bedding in layers, that can be added or removed as necessary. Also, if you have no issues with eating soy, then 1-2 daily servings can help to balance your hormones until your ovaries resume normal functioning. Best wishes for your continued recovery!
