6 week post op pain?

TAH/BSO w abdominal hernia repair
I go today for my 6 week post-op and will ask doc but am curious...
My belly feels "bruised". There is a spot midway between belly button and incision and also on lower right just above incision (almost where ovaries were).
Wondering if this is "normal".

Re: 6 week post op pain?

I have the same thing. The dr. did an ultrasound and I have a hemorraghic cyst on my right ovary and they said that releases blood into the abdomen which causes that bruised feeling.

Re: 6 week post op pain?

I have the same feeling - I also had a TAH/BSO about 6 weeks ago and the doctor says it's totally normal. There's a lot of tissue trauma involved, they cut you open and then use a spreader type of instrument to stretch everything out even wider. So muscles and tissue first get sliced and then stretched. I'm actually surprised that my tummy's not black and blue, because it feels like it should be!

Re: 6 week post op pain?

Just like you said, surgery is trauma . It's an injury - a controlled one -but an injury none-the-less. My doctor told me that the initial recovery phase is 6 weeks and full recovery 6 months. I'm just about 3 months out and I still get twinges when I do too much or add something new to my routine.

What you're feeling is part of the normal recovery process. Hang in there - it gets better!

Re: 6 week post op pain?

I also feel like I am very bruised, I do not like even moving my skin to really clean the incision area. I don't even want to touch that area. I do get some swelling because I notice at night that my underwear feels tighter. I have been wearing velour pull up lounge pants and zip up jackets or PJ's since I had my surgery because I don't want anything pressing on that area.
