Patchy area on breast/itching/swelling????

In the winter, it's a given that the area around my nipples will get itchy but last week I noticed a large rectangular rough area on the breast, but under the arm. I've also had some discomfort and a swollen feeling there. I see the breast surgeon in Feb for my fibrocystic breasts, but would this warrent an earlier visit? Any ideas what it could be???????? I've tried putting some ointment on it, but haven't seen it clear up any.

Hi what kind of ointment did you use? Did you try a cortisone cream?

I'm not sure you need to rush in to the breast surgeon, but perhaps your regular DR could have a look between now and February?

Being a breast cancer survivor, we have what we call a two week rule. See how it goes, try the cortisone cream like surferbabe said and give it two weeks. If after two weeks there is no improvement, by all means call your breast surgeon and ask for an appointment. It may very well be nothing.

It's always a good idea to err on the side of caution, but give it the two weeks of home treatment first.
