asking my doctor more questions--a 2nd appt

Hi Everyone,

AFter reading some information on this site I started to get VERY ANXIOUS about my surgery and a date hasn't been set yet. It will be sometime in September though...coincides with my schedule better.

Anyway, I called my doctor and set up an appt. and told her I was FREAKING OUT!! She gave me a hug and then sat there and answered 2 pages worth of questions. She spent a little over 45 minutes with me. She is great. I got a lot of my questions from the pre-op questions sight. If you are new here read that. Anyway, I asked her to do things I needed her to do. Some suggestions:

*I asked her to go back through all of the options (some I brought up and some she did) and why they wouldn't work....
*I asked her to show me (on me) where my incision would be and how long it would be and how long I would be on the operating table.
* i asked her if I could bring a particular type of music or healing prayers into the OR and she said, "I usually listen to rock and roll but I will play anything you want me to."
*I asked her to draw me a picture of what she would be doing to me and how she would remove my uterus (I am keeping the ovaries due to my age--37)
*I also talked about my fears with her on pain management, having a catheter in...etc.

IT was wonderful and I came away a little more calm and understanding why this surgery is needed and important to my health.

Anyway, if you are FREAKING OUT figure out what you need from your doctor and make an appointment to talk to him or her. Mine is GREAT and I am so thankful I found her.

I hope these suggestions help someone out there.

Hugs all you Princesses.
Paulette

Great reminder that everyone needs more than one opinion...and to explore all options before scheduling surgery!

I've moved this thread from the "Introduce yourself" forum (where few will read it) to the Options/Alternatives forum for those exploring options will find it. Thanks!
