Adenomyosis

I am 40 with 4 kids, youngest is12. For the past year I have had heavy bleeding with cramps and clots. I have Never had cramps before. Period has always been a bit irregular. Vaginal ultrasound was done and dr confident of adenomyosis. He recommends either a endometrial ablation or hysterectomy. He feels these are my best options. I am done having kids and had thought no more period would be so great, until now. I am surprised by how hard this is for me. I can't speak of it with out crying. At this point I just don't know what to do. I understand this gets worse over time. How quickly does it progress?

Re: Adenomyosis

Hello Jsp,
I was also diagnosed with the same thing two years ago. Both options were given to me but I didn't do either at the time. My periods got worse and heavier. I was given the options again in dec of last year. I choose to have the hysterectomy because I didn't want to try the abalation and it didn't work. I have a friend who did that and she is now considering a hysterectomy. I had a vaginal hysterectomy last Friday. I struggled with the decision for awhile but I just got tired of the heavy bleeding every month. Recovery has been going ok, better than I expected. I'm taking it slow. This site is filled with wonderful woman that can give you lots of answers and support. But remember, the decision is yours and yours alone. I would research as much as possible about both options so you can feel better about your choice. Good luck with everything. Take care.
