Re: did anyone have home healthcare following surgery?

You may need to get some assistance for the first few weeks. You will need help cooking, cleaning, driving, etc. Sometimes local churches can provide help, or maybe a neighbor or friend. You can also get frozen meals (or cook a bunch and freeze before surgery) that you can put into the microwave. Maybe some plastic ware that you don't have to wash...

Plan on letting your home go dirty... vacuuming, dusting, etc.

Good luck to you.....

Hi,
I agree you will need someone for at least the first 2 weeks of your recovery.

Good luck!

Re: did anyone have home healthcare following surgery?

Thanks marestail - I'm sure my church will send someone periodically. Would you have had in-home care if it were available to you? I'm trying to decide whether to ask for it - no guarantee they will let me have it

Re: did anyone have home healthcare following surgery?

I think you should ask for it - always plan for the worst - if you don't need it, you can always cancel. Go ahead and set up what you can now

Re: did anyone have home healthcare following surgery?

I probably would not have done home health care, but would have gotten meals-on-wheels for dinner the first week or so.

I had a TAH BSO, and came home from the hospital on a Friday after going in on a Tuesday. My DH was home with me for that day and through the weekend. He went back to work on Monday. I was then home by myself for the day, but he came home in the evening. I could make my own breakfast (made oatmeal in the microwave - that was comforting) and then popped a frozen lunch in the microwave for lunch. Dinners DH handled, and I had very simple meal plans that even a man can do. He also did dishes. The house went uncleaned for 8 weeks...I just let that one go. It is not important.

You need to just take things slow. Do a little at at time, and in batch mode.

Good luck to you.
