Considering My Options - Advice Please
Hi all,
back in March of this 2015, I was diagnosed with complex atypical hyperplasia...Two options were given to me, either an IUD or hysterectomy. Months have passed without any sort of treatment. Went for a 2nd hysteroscopy, and the results are the same. My last dr. visit, 2 weeks back, the hysterectomy was recommended. Has anyone had a similar experience? In your opinion, which is the best way to go?

Re: tentative hysterectomy
Complex hyperplasia with atypia is the one most likely to turn to cancer. I would have the hysterectomy but done by a gyn/onc. They can check for cancer right then and if no signs in the uterus of cancer, then keep your ovaries - take the tubes though.
In hindsight, that is what I would do. I did not suspect cancer so had my gyn do the surgery. Later found there was cancer so good thing it all went.

Re: tentative hysterectomy
Hello Datcat and welcome,
You are right to weigh the pros and cons now before you have major surgery. I would strongly advise you to seek other medical opinions so that you can make a knowledgable decision.
I too was diagnosed with Complex hyperplasia with atypia. I sought three medical opinions and all agreed I was at risk for cancer and needed a radical hysterectomy. However, I was very lucky that all my pre-cancerous cells were removed during surgery, so no further treatment was required.
The important thing now is to gather facts and information about your condition. You need and deserve confidence in your decision and of course in your surgeon as well. You need to do what you feel is best for your overall health.
Here is a link to an article I encourage you to read:
5 Reasons to Get Second + Opinions
While none of us "want" surgery, it helps to be confident in our decision to pursue it.
Take your time in making this decision.
Hugs, Marcia

Considering My Options - Advice Please
I have gotten 3/4 other doctor opinions as well, and all have been the same response, more or less... I also have 3 fibroids outside the uterus. Why am I so concerned w/ the fibroids more than the atypia? Maybe it's a coping or denial method, idk. It is just all so final... I will read the article thank you..

Re: Considering My Options - Advice Please
This is a lot of info to absorb all at once. I had huge twisted fibroids as well as the atypia - so believe me, I understand your anxiety.
It was hard for me to accept the finality of the surgery too, but once u accepted it, I started to feel more in control. You also received several opinions - in my case, the consensus of opinions made surgery easier for me to accept.
Hugs and take care.
