Surgery on Monday

After having the DaVinci hysterectomy cancelled twice, Monday is finally the day. I am getting kind of nervous.

normal to be nervous. I kept looking forward to feeling better, and having it all behind me. And I reminded myself that they do these surgeries every day, and that there is nothing to worry about. Easier said, than to not worry, eh?

I imagine you have been on a rollercoaster having it cancelled twice.

Drink lots of water the night before until the cut off time, makes the IV go easier. You'll go fine, and soon be feeling great.

Use today get everything ready at home so all you have to do is come home, lay down and rest. Keeping busy will help keep your mind off the upcoming surgery.

You might consider getting a couple extra pillows so you can comfortably sit up in bed. Have a book on the night stand if you are a reader. Buy some Gas-X and stool softeners ... these will be your best friends during the first week home.

I had an abdominal hysterectomy in 2008 and I'm so glad I did! No more periods. No more pre-menstrual headaches. No more watching the calendar, dreading the "special" visit.

Great reminders from Purplesnow. No lifting after surgery. I made sure to have everything with some weight to it I needed from the store like cat food, gallon jugs of milk or water etc. already bought. Fresh sheets on the bed, housework done. My appetite was gone, so on second surgery I had bought a better selection of snack food to temp me to eat something. Things easy to fix.

I am 5 days post DaVinci and doing OK. I was nervous too but more about getting there and getting it done. The surgery itself was easy for me... slept right thru it. Woke in Recovery and started my healing...
