Lightbulb - Antibiotics and surgery...IMPORTANT!!! Antibiotics and surgery...IMPORTANT!!!

To all the pre-op princess out ther I will post more about what happened to me in the post-op board should you want to read about it. PLEASE talk to your Dr. BEFORE surgery about the possibility of coming down with C Diff (abbrv...they will know what this is if you don't) Start eating tons of yogurt know or taking Acidophillus capsules now just in case. This is a hospital acquired infection related to anti biotic usage...trust me it is quite probably the nastiest thing gooing, literally! I came down with this and am trying to help any pre-op sisters BEFORE they could end up like I was! I just got out of the Castle on May 21 form TAH and then after about 5 days came down with this. UUUGGGHHH!!!! I was readmitted to the Castle and kept in Contact Isolation for 3 days due to dehydration and am finally home. I am still taking medicine for this 6 times a day and now have been told that from this point on for possibly the rest of my life I have to be careful of antibiotics as it could affect me again. I still would have my surgery but would be better informed about this horrible illness. For all the advice about using antibacterial soap prior to surgery, etc to prevent site infections no one told me this could happen. Talk to your Dr. about ways to try and prevent this...it is in all hospitals. My dear Pharmacist in town told me if I need anything or have trouble with meds, etc just call her anytime. I lost 8 lbs since leaving the Castle, along with the 8 lbs I lost from the surgery, after the TAH and she said she would rather cut off her left arm to lose weight than do it by having C Diff.I am now at 135lbs and at 5'8" that's a lot of weight to drop in 20 days. Please ,please, please talk to you Dr.s about this ..if I can help just one of you from possibly coming down with this it will be a blessing to me...feel like something good will come out of this. DON'T cancel your surgery ,just be informed and aware. Good luck and to you all.
