Re: Abdominal muscle spasms TAH post op

Just to let all know that I have not had any spasms since my last post in December (surgery was early October) and all is well. I hope all of you are feeling better and that your spasms are on the decline as well. I feel great!

Re: Abdominal muscle spasms TAH post op

Just thought I'd update on my experience - I took the muscle relaxants from 15 weeks for around two months. After about 6 weeks of taking these I was able to skip days when I didn't take them and gradually the spasms faded.

I am almost 7 months post TAH / BSO now and have also been doing daily yoga stretches the last two months which have been so beneficial.

I also read on this website something about body rolling which gives your tummy a good gentle stretch using a ball. Sounds strange but I think it helps too.

It's a way of getting a deep stretch that even a good massage doesn't manage. Anyone interested - google it

I still have off days where my tummy swells or my energy levels are low but now I have more good days than bad.

I went back to my Gynaecologist around four and half months due to GP concerns and he said the slow healing and spasm were due to the amount of internal stitches and scar tissue that he had to deal with and that not too expect a full recovery for up to a year.

On a positive when I asked if I could do any internal harm at 18 weeks post op he said 'no - the worst I could do was exhaust myself'

Its a long long road to recovery and I read the posts on this site almost daily - the advise I would give is to really really take your time healing and trust in the signals your body gives you. If something doesn't feel right - get it checked out.

Take care all. Jx
