I'm new here- any advise- please?

Hi everyone! I have been reading this message board for non-stop about 3 weeks now. So, I guess I'm ready to share my story with all you amazing sisters. I have multiple fibroids and was told I should have a hysterectomy. I have look into other options such as uterine Fibroid embolization (UFE) but chose its not . . the right way for me to go. I have a uterus the size of a 18 week pregnancy and a lower backache only when I get up from standing and out of bed. (walking is fine) I have pressure all the time and feel like Im pregnant! I hate it. (UFE would not shrink my fat stomach down enough. (LOL ) After 2 gyno's opinions, the dr on my plan referred me to a gyno oncoligist who specializes more in detail- he advised me that my uterus is wall to wall and he didint feel comfortable doing the surgery. He also said if I wanted to avoid surgery I can go with the (UFE) but he thinks I should have a hysterectomy and leave my ovaries. Im glad for that because I dont feel comfortable going on HRT. I am very nervous about general anst. but it looks like everyone on the board woke up. LOL - I have a dr appt Thursday and hopfully he will tell me he'll do it and give me an idea of a date. I am looking foward to get this thing out of my stomach and to feel like my old self again. I dont have bad periods or irregular bleeding although my period seems heavier the last few months. I had 2 c- sections so I am comparing the pain and the recovery to that. I have a dd who is 19 and a ds who is 11. I also have a great dh. I would appreciate any advise from you wonderful sisters and I dont think I would feel so comfortable without this board. Thanks for listening Shelley

I'm new here- any advise- please?

Hi there, I am a fairly new post op, just over 3 weeks. I had my surgery April 25 and haven't looked back.

The reason for my surgery was due to cell change. I had been going to colposcopy clinic appointments for 2 years, but the Doctor said he didn't like the changes, I didn't even question his opinion.

I had my Uterus and right ovary removed. There is definate discomfort, but nothing that won't get better. My biggest complaint is the gas, and bowel spasms......this too will pass, I hope!!

This is a wonderful site, with lots of information.....

Good luck, and choose whatever you feel comfortable with....
prayers and thoughts are with you....

I'm new here- any advise- please?

Shelley,
Having a hyst is such a hard decision, isn't it? I went through all of the questions and wondering....I am still wondering sometimes. I don't have bad periods, either, but they are starting to change, too. I figure that I am staying ahead of the game. If I have the surgery now, I won't have to have it later down the road when the endo and scar tissue gets worse. (Besides, I could have the endo and adhesions removed now and have to have the hyst a year from now.)

It always helps to feel comfortable with the decision you have made...I haven't felt panicky for a while (knock on wood!) but I know that is going to get worse as the surgery approaches. I guess I can only take so much stress before my brain goes on over-load.

Good luck! Let your sisters know if we can offer any support, s or listen when you lose it. That's what we are here for!

s and chocolate!

I'm new here- any advise- please?

Patty,

I guess you can't wait for surgery. You mentioned recovery being the same as your C-section. There was a thread about that just recently. I was told by my doctor," NO WAY are they alike. "I will look up that threat and come back.

So sorry Platty...mistook your name for Patty,

Read what the girls have said on May 19, by MsAudrey 74. The title to the thread is," Hi need questions". I hope this will give you a feel of what to expect for recovery.
Meantime, welcome to this great place of sisterhood. Sounds like you sure have done your share of suffering. Hoping you get your date soon.
